I have static during winamp playback. (music plays, back there's a crackly noise, chitter chitter chitter....) I have a crappy €15,00 soundcard. Will spending another €80,00 on a good soundcard fix my problem? I hate static.

[Quick Tech Answer] I hate static too. There could be lots of different reasons for hearing static. The obvious ones are:
- make sure your mic playback volume is 0 i.e. it could be that the mic is on and feeding back to your speakers. - Your volume is too high. - The winamp equaliser is set to amplify high-frequency sounds too much. Take the treble down a bit - see if that helps. - The recording of the song is crap - lots of high-frequency noise so use a low-pass filter to get rid of it with a nice sound-editing program. - You're using the wrong drivers? - Your sound card is just crap ![]() Probably lots of other possibilities too but can't think of any more now. Good tips, but to no avail. I'll see if I can get another, good SC to test it. ![]()

Consider testing with another set of speakers, too. They can cause problems as well.

I've ruled out all those options: tried different speakers, different stereo, PC speakers, etc. It's all the same. I keep getting irri static during playback. In games, there is also some static, but that's a lot less obvious then when listening to music.

Sounds like you've worked your way back to the sound card.
Has it ever worked well? If it has, you might try unseating it, blowing it clean with a can of compressed air, and reseating it. Could just be dust in there.
