They are all ignoring me

I`m in Saradush. I have my SoA party and Sarewok. I have been to the archive and got the quest for the mage book, but Hectan in the pub is "occupied" and won`t talk. I have been to the merchant Kiser to sort ou the Mateo quest, and he has sent me to Errard up on the walls. He is busy and won`t talk either. Now the innkeeper is also avoiding me. Have I got bad breath ? Is it a bug? Is it the curse of Anomen come home to haunt me at last? I would appreciate help from you experts.

This a common bug with ToB.
You should install the patch and it will be fixed!

I downloaded the patch from www.bioware.com and it has completely sorted the problem. I gather the difficulty came from the platform Win XP. I am very grateful for the help.
