These are what I know to be a very good asumption of the requirements low end to be able to run Oblivion but, I can't say they are offical just what I was told by a good friend.

Suported OS: Windows 98se,2000 pro, & XP-all versions
Min. Processor: AMD Athlon 1GHz or Pentium III 1GHz
Recommended Minimun: AMD Athlon 2000+ or 2GHz pentinm 4
Recomended OS: windows XP all versions
Video Card min.: 64MB DirectX 9.0b
RAM Min.: 256MB
Recommended Ram: 512-1024 or better
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0b compatable PCI Card
CD-ROM: 16X CD-ROM
DVD: 4X DVD
Drive space 10.5GB aprox. yes not a typo 10.5GB

Tested Video cards Min spec: ATI 9000 series ATI PCI 600 or better.
NVIDIA GeForce 3/4/FX must have Force Wave Drivers. NVIDIA 3/4 do not
support all graphics features but game will run with game set on lowest functions.

OK Gang these are in no way offical but from what I understand, If you can run Doom 3 and FarCry on your computer you will have very little trouble running the game and enjoying the Graphics as well as the game rate.

soon we'll find out for sure what is what.

Not that I don't appreciate the info CB, but they seem too low if you ask me. I doubt even on lowest settings the game would run in any way that is playable using an ati 9000. The ram too...256 would probably die with this game, think of the radiant AI even on the cpu.

edited for typos

Whoa, 10,5 Gig of discspace is a lot for one game, largest i have so far is 5 Gig tops. Soon we'll need 500 Gig harddrives or more.

as I said I've seen the game Alpa and Beta running and they are using this new verison of the Morrowind Engine and low end is alot lower than I would have ever guesed and It does't look anywhere near as good on the low end but it can be played.
I saw it at my friends house in Maryland on three low end computers or the low end I mentioned But then again there is the High end with Nivida 7800 and ATI X850 and the new ATI X1800 these will take this game to new hights makeing your eyes bug out. But as I said these low end numbers were the test computers that have run the game and that this isn't an offical group of numbers just a little better Idea of what we might be able to play the game with. One thing that Bethesda Softworks has stated is they want to build a game that is Cutting Edge with the ability for midline computers to run it too. Even FarCry could run on a 64MB Video card with 256MB of RAM. but there is alot of difference between having a computer run a game and run it well and be able to enjoy all the real perks of the Graphics in the game
I am personally waiting to see what computer system will best run Oblivion. If need be I will buy a new computer if one of mine I already own doesn't have enough of the high end stats to make the game run smooth and fast and real Pretty.

Ok well that sounds cool. I imagine it looks ugly at low end but at least it's playable. Thank you for the heads up.

please forgive me, but i'm leery about any claims until pete or todd or gavin come out with something definitive. how well i remember the same kind of info being discussed before MW was released and yet, post-release, the forums were full of players who just flat out couldn't play.

additionally, i don't think bethesda would make a game DX9.0b-compatible. DX9.0c seems more likely since "b" was not a game-friendly version.

I'd love to believe in those specs, but unfortunately I'm just too cynical. Here's hoping you're right, though!

I can't see this running on 256 Meg, Black and White 2 looks worse than this and its 512 Meg minimum.

Well we do know for a fact what the devs are running the game on, and it isn't that bad. I think one of them, I think Steve Meister, is running it on an Athlon 2600+ with a ATI Radeon 9700 or 9800.

actually he is running a 2600+ with a 9600 pro and 768MB SDRam because he only has 3 slots on his mother board and hapened to just use 3 256 cards.
OR not
