I just start the game and he dies i dont even get to see the character he dies before anything happens
I imported him through a BG1 character file, would've it been better if imported him through the final save? |

He shoudnt be dying. not even if he had 30 hps, he shoudnt be dying. try loading his character in Shadow/Gate Kepeer (you have a choice here since you have the character in both games) and checking out hi HP - it might be corrupeted. does he have any weird equipment or such.
and does the game work if you create a new character? And it is better to import through a final save.

I've always exported the characters from the games to the Char.file, and then moved them from there to the Char. file in BGII with windows explorer. I think that you can get them through the game, but I can't remember how. None of the hit points should matter, as the game automatically boosts the char to where it should be starting out.
At least that's my understanding.
