Can anyone help with the following... (spoilers requested)

Killing Drizzt. I can't seem to be able to harm him.

Can a half-orc romance Viconia? If so how?

If you have attacked a character needed for a quest is there any way to stop them attacking and talk to them?

Does the nether scroll really turn Edwin into a girl? I got it ages ago and nothing has happened.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

1. The Drizzt battle can be quite difficult because there are suprisingly powerful fighters on Drizzt's team and Drizzt himself is largely magic resistant. Try summoning some high-level allies (Skeleton Warriors make great fodder) to fight Drizzt mano-a-mano then disable the spellcasters/archer. Protection from magical weapons is very useful if you cast it on a mage and let this character absorb the attacks.

3. There is a way through the CLUA console. Otherwise you should probably just skip the quest.

4. The Nether Scroll DOES have adverse effects on Edwin. You just need to wait a while for the dialogues to kick in.

2. Half-Orc can romance Viconia and it'll just happen like all other romances.

4. It's been discussed before -- what you said to Edwin when he got the scroll will determine whether the adverse effect will take place. Great RPG such as BG is about consequences of your action (well, the same thing can be said to your question #3).

I said the scroll was 'party treasure' but he took it anyway. Does this mean I'm going to miss the quest and thus be forced to turn Edwin into a rat and ditch him in the underdark with every cursed item I can find?

Half-orc will need some kind of all-romance patch like is found in the Ease of Use mod to romance Viconia. In base SoA, AFAIK, Viconia can only romance humans and half-elves.

Edwin's quest is both iffy and buggy. Allow me to clarify: In the original version, the conversation immediately after obtaining the Scroll was life-or-death for the quest: If you said the "it's party treasure" line, the quest whould eventually continue, but if you said the other response, the quest would end right there. (Or maybe it was the other way around. I'm not sure.) However, this was a very poor decision on BioWare's part, because both conversation responses are equally valid, and so a player could unknowingly screw himself out of a fun quest by making a sound roleplaying decision. But cheer up, there is a mod that changes this (I think it's the "Edwin" component of Weimer's Ease-of-Use mod), by making both conversation responses allow the quest to proceed.

The quest is still buggy, though, in that it time-dependent. Quests that are based on the game's timer (Edwin's and Jaheira's quests are the big offenders here) tend to be buggier than than ones that only check whether "X event has occurred," such as Nalia's quest. So the game might choke up at any part of Edwin's quest, and you could be stuck with an irritated Edwin for the rest of the game. So what you might try is to make an archived Savegame right before you obtain the Scroll. If Edwin's quest fails at any point, you can reload the archive game and try again. The downside to this is that Edwin's quest takes about 3 weeks to complete, so that's a HUGE amount of time lost.

But even if Edwin's quest crashes and burns, that does not by any sense of the imagination mean that Edwin himself is useless. Heck, people use NPCs like Aerie, Viconia, Minsc, and Imoen all the time, and they don't have quests at all.

well, maybe ToB changes that. In my first SoA -> ToB game, Viconia flirted with my Half-Orc Barbarian, and he went along with it, hence the romance to the end. I didn't install any mod for that game as I recall.

it's the other way around.
