Unfortunatley you can not and if you have played BG2 you should know that due to the bigging. But I will tell you that you can get 4 NPCs from BG1 and you will come across and talk to many of your old freinds but they can not join your party. Also there is no way to export NPCs only your character or characters you have created in multi player. In order to import your character you go to his\her record and export it into a new file kind of like saving. Then you just go to import chacter when your creating your new character and there they are with all te items except gems and bags which you dont get in BG1 so in other wrds there is no posible way to import your whole party into BG2 but if you some how figure out how to import your protaginist you will lose all your items due to the beging scene. I think you can import your party into the expasion of waterdeep as in all the other expansion packs.

Only 1 item from BG1 can be found in BG2 (in the beginning of cause) after you have exported your character.
No need to spoil so I won't tell. You 'll find out later (maybe first in ToB - as I did). |

The item Jan is talking about is in SoA only if you have it on your char when you export it.
However, there is a way to import all your items to BG2. SPOILERS (select the text to see it): When you import your BG1 char into SoA and press the done button on the char generation screen, wait until game loads and then, when you see a black screen, click pause. Then press "I" (default key for inventory) and drop all the items on your char on the ground. Now return to game and unpause the game. After the intro just pick up the items from the ground.

Or you can download Ease-of-Use, which has an option which enables keeping those items. Or you can assign them with ShadowKeeper.

One word of warning: When/if you take your BG1 character into BG2, make sure that (s)he is NOT wearing the Claw of Kazgaroth. Now the Claw is a rather powerful and pretty cool item, but it's definitely not as cool as a certain other item that you'll find in BG2. If your character had the Claw when you exported into BG2, you will not get that better item--in its place, you will find the Claw instead.

Start a new game (in SoA) and while in char generation screen, click the 'import' button on the bottom of the screen. Now you have the choice of importing a character file or importing a char from a saved game in BG1.
You can choose the first option only if you have exported your char in BG1. If you choose the other option you'll see a list of all your save games from BG1. Select one and then choose char to import (there will be only one if you played single player game). Now you can change some skills of the char and choose a kit if you want. You can also edit his/her appearance, sounds and name. Note that all the items from imported char will disappear once you start SoA (unless you use the little trick described above).
