Not that I know of. I wanted to do the same thing.
But the games arn`t really based on the same rules. IWDII uses a version of the 3`d edition DnD rules. Were IWDI uses 2nd edition.... plus the first Ice Wind Dale didn`t have the feats and skills system that the second game has. It makes them incompatible. Unless there is a Mod out there I don`t know about.

not totally true, i once imported a BG character into BGII and you simply just chose your skills over again like two handed weapon style and all that

Malavon,
You are correct that you can import from BG1 to BG2. However, the original question was about importing from IWD1 to IWD2, and that is NOT possible for the reasons stated by the posts prior to yours.

i just kind of find it weird that u cant, cuz it'd be kind of fun to see what the NPC's would say to the fact that they remember u from IWD.

To confirm what has already been said...IWD characters cannot be imported into IWD2. They are not compatible.
As far as BG and BG2...that game was purposely made to accept the imports...as part of the story. |

Since most of IWD2 takes place in new areas, there aren't many NPC's around who would remember the party from 30 years back (the time between IWD and IWD2). About the only one might be Conlan in Kuldahar.

That and the fact that the 3rd edition rules would cause compatibility probs.
