What do you have to do to do the Harper's Quest?

The first one you have a random encounter, and alot of guys attack you... once you beat them, a guy called Renfeld wants you to take him to the docks district- do what he says, and the first quest initiates.

For the rest of them, you need to have Jaheira in your party and the quests will find you.

Actually, I think it's not random. AFAIK the first time you venture out of the city, you will get "waylaid by bandits and must defend yourself". After the fight you will get a quest that will kick off the whole Harper quest sub-plots.

You need to be patient though, as the Harper quest is one of the most intricate ones for NPCs.

I've finished BG2 twice with Jaheria in my party but other than saving Renfeld, I've never encountered another Harper quest or gotten into that Harper enclave on the Docks. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to have a romance with Jaheria ?

After bringing whassisname back to the harper base, did you do Xzar's quest to resecue Montaron? I believe this needs to be done in order to advance the harper plot.

No I haven't. The guy irritates me so much that I usually end up killing him.

Ha, well, there's your answer. You've got to complete Xzar's quest to set off the rest of the Harper quests. Anyway, don't sweat it because....

Xzar dies anyway. You'll see when you play the quest through.

Thanks Sazerac. I had a feeling that any character with an attitude like that would end up dead. I just like to help it along. I do the same thing with "moustache guy" Amonean. I'll put him as point in the group just to watch him die. I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only "old man" around here. It's just a shame that I'm just so much older. A second childhood I suppose.

LOL, no kidding! I take it you didn't play BG1...he's REALLY horrible in that one. In a hilarious sort of way, though.

Nah, once a gamer, always a gamer! I've been playing games like this off and on since 1981, back on the old DOS machines, even.

(OT): I see you're from Dallas! Nice to meet a fellow Texan here. We have a small Texas "Cadre" here at Escape Gaming... Myself, you, Attalus and Galadria, RudeDawg and Charean, Moni, Iron Ranger, Azred (who's in Plano if I recall), and probably several others too that I've forgotten.

Cheers,
-Saz
I'm sure you played Starjammer if you're an "oldtimer". You haven't lived though, until you've played Star Trek on Fortran II. Each move was printed out on a new page (no moniters}. Graphics were a X,O or *.
Let's here it for the Texas Connection! GO MEAN GREEN!
