Fellow IW members.

I hope you are all aware of US 193. If not, do a google about it. North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a sub agency of Northern Command (NORTHCOM), actually the commander is one and the same.

...I know it would probably be a waste of good ordinance, but if it endangered anyone, couldn't we shoot a missile at it?

I know it would enter the atmosphere at quite a velocity, but it would slow down real quick.

It would be better to waste a missile than have it fall on the White House...or my house.

Eh, probably not worth it. The odds of something falling randomly on earth and damaging something you know or care about are hideously small, and missiles are hideously expensive. Although, it would be a wonderful opportunity to test that SDI thingy.

SDI won't work on it, but somebody has at least thought of an order to place patriot missile battery's on REDCON 5 at strategic locations throughout the continent, and to have 5 pre-loaded on C-17s to be dropped anywhere NORAD / NASA deems will be the most predictable entry and glide path if it becomes clear of a continental crash.

Size is a factor in this situation, and clearly this one is not headed for the Indian Ocean.
