I was looking at this motherboard and I have come across Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe. This mother board features two PCIe x16 slots for video accelerators, one PCIe x4 slot and three standard PCI slots. For USB and Firewire connectivity, we have the four integrated USB ports, and three headers to support six more USB ports. A single Firewire (IEEE1394) port is on the motherboard and a header for a second port is available on the board as well. The bundle includes three add on brackets for the user: One with two USB ports, one with a Firewire port and one with two eSATA ports, as well as a molex power port.
link is here http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/09/...tml#navigation So my question is this, how do you utilize the two PCIe X16 slots? Can I just use one video card, "GeForce 8600 GTS"? And in the future, for expandability, do I include another GeForce 8600 GTS in the 2nd PCIe video slot? Im confused.

You can either put one Videocard in one slot(or two if it uses up two) and use that, or you can put two of the same cards in SLI mode. It doesn't matter if you put it in one-card mode first and then in SLI or the other way around, it doesn't remember stuff like that anyway. You do have to fiddle in BIOS with SLI settings I believe.
If, in any case, you are considering buying a GeForce 8600 GTS I recommend buying something else.

im a low budget gamer.. what other options can you give me? That card cost 219 USD or 261 AUD in the market for me. If there is any card that is better than the GeForce GTS, and around 300Aud, I would go for it if you would point the way .

I don't know about prices in your area, but I got a nice 7950GT with 512 ram for 200 euros. It's worth the investment. In my area I can get a 7900GT or 7950GT in the same price class as the 8600 GTS and it's a better card. The only advantage of the 8600 would be DX10, which isn't going to support any good games for a while anyway.
If someone can give some info on how the 8500 or 8600 compare to the 7900 or 7600 it would help! ![]() EDIT: I found this. As you can see the 8600 is hardly better than the 7600, and the 7900 GS is better, and probably cheaper or the same price. [ 06-05-2007, 05:38 AM: Message edited by: JrKASperov ]

Do you need a low end DX10 card? if not, you are still better off buying an ATI X1950 Pro or GT

well i tend to make my computers last. Heck my last computer that i am still using is 4.5 years old now . My current video card is a 5200 gforce fx . (just playing old games
![]() ![]() I did do a small comparison check. YOu did say you bought that card for 200 Euro = 323Aud. The 8600 GTS is selling for 261 Aud while the GT card is selling for 189 Aud. Looking at Toms Hardware for comparison ![]() link: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/...600/page5.html The 8600 Video card seems to be priced cheaper and better performance than the 7900 GTX and supports DX10. Of course you did buy your video card a while back so the price difference must be big. But I did check my online store for the gforce 7900 and 7950 and they dont have any of those models available in thier online shop. Wierd. oh btw use This website if you want a good currency conversion: http://www.xe.com/ [ 06-05-2007, 06:09 AM: Message edited by: Harkoliar ]

I went with the 7600GT, and I got my second card for my SLI configuration the other day for 150.00 US, after tax. It performs well in NWN 2, and kicks NWN in the butt, so, I'd say that would be the way to go. The SLI config was basic, as nVidia included one click enabling of SLI mode in it's control panel. At least, I don't think I have to do anything else...

Save up for a little longer and get an 8800GTS 320MB version. It WHOMPS DX9 games, so long as you're gaming at a resolution below 1600 X 1200.
They're priced around $270 USD, or 322 AUD. It's the better value, it really is...unless the ATI HD 2600 proves better, but it won't be out at least until August. Oh, and Hellgate: London is a DX 10 game and is supposed to be coming out next month.
