So in Febuary I am going to host a poker game. Either going to be a table of 10 or 2 tables of 5.
Anyone have a good format to use. I want the blinds to go up about every 20 min. So anyone have any tips on what the chip count should be and where should the blinds start. And yes it is texas holdem. I have chips 3 different colors.

That's a tough one! Some people will not want to play at the same table as (X). Others will want to play at the table with (J). Not all will play if (X) is at the table.
Choice one: Player preferred seating prior to game night. Choice two: You mandate the seating on game night. Mandating the blinds? Are you on a set time line? 'If I was at your game, and you mandated blinds up, I would only bid when it was my turn. Thus extending your time line considerably while creating friction amongst the other players.' Has all of the players agreed upon a set blinds up? Chips: Color; in my experience with hold'em, all chips are equal, so mix and match your three different colors. However, if they are traditional poker chips, they are marked, and you can use that system as default. BUT, if you are mandating blinds up, when you hit the $5 mark, you will have some disgruntling going on. Count; all equal? Then 50 chips per buy in. If traditional, then face value, and you will have to mandate buy in, cash out. If you want a really easy night, with little hassle, and no hard feelings. Then go with two tables, self assigned seating, all chips are a buck, 27 chip minimum, 37 chip maximum, 2 chips stay in the pot. First round blind is all in 1 chip, 2-9 Two chips. Tenth, and every consecutive tenth, all blinds go up one. My experience is with rough neck men. Soldiers, Marines, and retired soldiers and marines. If you are playing with gentlemen.....

Thanks for the info.
We are all work buddies. Just looking for a night to get away from the kids and wife. I was going to go with a 20$(real money) buy in. I would like the game to go for maybe 2-3 hours. So I thought the 20 bucks would get you 10000 play chips. Big blind start at 50$ and the small blind 25$ and ante for 25$. Then after 20 min blind will go up to 100 big blind and 50 small. So on and so on. So as the game goes on people that are not agressive will get eaten up by the blinds. I am basing some of this on what I see on tv. I may need to tweak the increase in blinds. And sorry it is no limit texas holdem. So you can go all in at any given time.

10000 is prolly way too much, with 3 colors id go 10, 50, and 100, either cents or dollars, it doesnt really matter. giv like 15 or 20 ten$ chips, 10 fifty$ chips, 5 hundred$ chips. start the blinds at 10 n 20, then raise 20 or 30 minutes, that'd prolly be a nice long game. and i do play a lot of poker with my friends about 2 or 3 times a week, and i play in a big game with mostly people i dont kno about once every month or so. u didnt wanna have buy ins and cash outs did u, otherwise id do it a lil differently.
