Right now I am fooling around with a custom party made entirely from half-orcs. This means that I have no wizard capabilities at all. I wanted to make a real "orky" party so I only allowed myself the comfort of one single cleric of Talos as well as one swashbluckler (they're pretty "rawwr-whack-whack" anyway). The other four are all warriors (two babarians,a berserker and a fighter with a bow).
Still I find it hard to get used to have such a magic-poor party. Do any of you know any tactics when running a magic-poor party?

If possible ditch an orc and get Edwin in your group. You won't be able to fight certain creatures without the ability to remove their magic proection. Against a dragon you have little chance unless you reach a high group lvl. Even if you rely heavily on scrolls this will be expensive and limited.

I would include 1 mage and 1 thief(both non-orc) and change thier appearance using shadowkeeper. U should always take a mage IMO

Kind of the idea with the party was that they were all to be half-orcs. Ditching one in order to bring in a mage would defeat the main idea and then I could just as well have played a normal game with the normal npc's.

One of my characters is handy with a bow though and there are those neat things called "Arrows of Dispelling", but you still can't rely too much on those as they are pretty damn rare. What do all you solo fighters do?

Running a non-magical party is tough, but not impossible. I've soloed pure Fighters some times myself, and all of them have made it to the end.
I used no real tactic, except always be on the look for magic-protective items. When there's a fight going on, I mainly use the Hack'n slash-teqnique. And I see that you have one Berserker, which is good. Put him in Enrage, and mages will cause you small problems. ![]() I've soloed an Assassin once too, and he is really good against mages, backstabbing them all at one time. Thank god you usually only come across them one by one. |

I would also guess that items such as Djinni Ring, Efreeti Bottle and Pai'na's pet spider are rather important since they give you access to a crucial resource: Summons!

I am soloing with a Monk. The summons are very important. I most of the occasions you don't need them if your fighter hack&slash well, but there will always be a situation where you need some additional distraction.
The Djinni is very usefull because he can cast stinking cloud. That gives you the opportunity to knock down a difficult opponent and attack him when he is defensiveless. Also look for those items that either give you magical protection and/or let you cast spells. The potions are also very usefull giving you magical protections against fire, etc. Finally the best protection of the enemy mages will wear down, it's just a question of time. Hence, see how you can survive that time (run away and come back later, get invisible (potions or hide in shadows) and run into a corner where he can't see you or use the cloak or sword that grants you indectability ...) |

Oh thanks . I am just having trouble with Tolgerias and his assistant myself.
Can't bear them down in close combat like the other spellcasters.

the run away and let the spell protections fade tactic is pretty good. If they were all orcs i would say get carsomyr and beat some mage butt with that, but since that is out of the question, when you meet a mage runa away from him, and then rest until his spells are gone, then go back and whoop him. VERY cheesy but it works most of the time
