As most folks 'round here know, I do not use M$ windoze, nor do I partake in anything else from Redmond. It seems of late thou, that the net has become festered with crapola along with things that ought not invade your 'privacy'. Mind you, even with non-winders, and Swift-Fox (high speed-low drag Firefox spin-off) running native, I get some of this as well. Just today I ran into one of those situations that just made me fall off of my throne laughing. I was on Fox reviewing this weeks football "predictions" (HA-HA), and clicked on the video file. Normally, I get the option to download or buffer, then my video player will open and commence to doing what video players are installed to do. Well not today, nope, no-siree-buddy, the brainiacs there must be slightly challenged.
Here is what I got: "This product requires Microsoft© Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft© Media Player 10, and Macromedia Flash 6. To download these free software applications, click the links below and follow the on-screen instructions." One would think that with all the IT genuises about, they could actually not figure out that two of those programs Will Not run on a Linux build! (WAA-HAAA-BAAA-HAAA) My side hurts!

Sad truth, Felix... most sites pander to the most common environment, which is Winders. Might check to see if there's an emulation tool available for you... I have a user agent switcher plugin for FireFox that will respond back and pretend to be IE6 (or whatever).

Winders eh? Catchy! I'm a Firefox user myself, but I don't know much about Linux, other than that people like it.
...nice font colour btw, felix.

Linux is all well unless you want to play Fallout and are too lazy to meddle with emulators.

Meh, that's what you get for using Fox
Vote with your feet and patronise a news service that uses a cross-platform media format like real player. And send them a mail to complain. Keeping sites Windows only is becoming especially stupid these days though, so I do agree. Not only is Firefox raising the bar with regards to standards compliance (forcing IE7 to be a lot better than IE6) which will in theory lead to standardised web design, but the rise of the Mac amongst savvy computer users means poorly designed sites are starting to risk losing serious customer base. Yeah, I keep IE6 handy, because there are plenty of times that I encounter a web page that just doesn't line up quite right without it. That said, I use Firefox for 99% of my browsing, easily, though I also have Opera.
IE6 is going the way of Netscape Nav....and I won't miss it when they don't bother releasing an IE8.
