My school year has been off to a terrible terrible start. First, during the summer a student in our grade named Kladius Kurcz drowned while swimming upstate. I once briefly knew him for a few weeks when I was in 8th grade, so it was kind of eerie that he was gone. Fast forward to this weekend and the dam just bursts open. Another girl who goes to our school was stabbed and killed because a heated arguement turned to violence. I didn't know her, but it was quite a sad thing to go throuhg. She died early yesterday (technically late late saturday night but days change officially at 12 am naturally). And then I get into school and second period I am told there was another death in this school by our teacher. Then 3rd period an official statement was read by the teachers.

Emily Cornish was killed in a DWI accident around 4:00am today. Now this name means nothing to all of you, but I happened to know this girl. And when the name was read I literally just said "oh shit" silently. And its been on my mind ever since. I was called out of class to go to a double-class room where nearly most of my friends were crying. My friend Brianna ran up to me crying and it just felt so damn surreal.

But I feel especially upset because I said some rather vicious things earlier in the day that came back to bite me in the ass. And I always made it well-known fact that I got annoyed by her very easily. And now I regret everything I've said and done. And I really haven't processed it all. And I need to think about it in my head alone.

But the worst damn thing is I was walking home from school today and channel 7 news (local abc station for the NYC and the tri-state area) see's me walking by her house (she lived right be me) and stops me for a damn interview. And the last thing I want to do is talk about it, let alone asks such annoyingly obvious fake questions. Not to mention it isn't proper for me to say anything, I wasn't that close. There was a handful of other people who deserved to speak for us all, not me.

So overall its been a bad, bad day for me. I don't even want to get into how angry I am because it was a DWI accident where Emily, her friend, and her friends mother were in the car. And the damn mother was driving drunk at 4 in the morning. It's just the most infuriating thing to hear, along with some other aspects such as the lack of seatbelt wearing. But everything seems to be crumbling a bit, not to mention I have my fantastic job in an hour but I think I'm calling out today.

The DWI thing is unfortunate and I am sorry about Emily. It was however very foolish of her to get in a car with someone behind the wheel who had been drinking. It should be a lesson for everyone and it is something my mother warned me about over and over that I was so tired of hearing it "Don't ever get in a car with a driver who had been drinking", I am glad for those warnings today because if I had I would never hear the end of it. I am also sorry for your bad start to the year.

SecretMaster, is that fight about the death of the girl that happened in Cortlandt? It was really freaky for me to hear that on the news, especially since I was in Cortlandt earlier that day.

This really suck. The moral of the story is that we need to be nice to our loved ones and never take them for granted.

And always, always wear your seat belt.

Man, that really sucks. I feel for you.

What an absolute waste for Emily. Dying like that is a shocker. Especially becasue the driver was her friends mother, who should be setting a godo example and telling her kids never to drink and drive. Disgusting.

What is even more tragic is that the mother and her daughter are fine; yet emily is dead. How often do the drunk drivers survive after killing someone else.

..but everybody only drinks socially; right? That's why I stay away from it all together; the price too "damn" high!

At least make as much of a positive as you can out of this. Treat people with respect, so you'll have positive memories.

..I speak from experience..

You have my sympathies, SecretMaster. What a hell of a lousy way to start the year.

And for everyone else, take a step back. It's a whole lot easier to sit after the fact and decide what should have been done than to put yourself in her shoes, at her age, at four in the morning. How many of you would tell your friend's mom she's too drunk to drive? How many of you, at that age, would be able to tell? How many of you would be able to find another way home at four in the morning?

Judgment can wait, and that mother will live with it for the rest of her life. Don't worry about her, but about Emily, her family, and her friends.

If you want to remember anything, remember Animal's words. Don't take life for granted. And my take: Give 'em a hug. You never know when it will be the last.

SecretMaster, my heart and sympathy go out to you. Stay strong, be strong, and know you've got support here.

Give 'em a hug one more time. It might be the last.

Well I don't want to discuss this sensitive subject too much, but the mother and friend had their seatbelt while she didn't. It was a frontal colision...

It was in fact that very fight. Apparently the girl who goes to our school, Elsa Comacho got into an arguement with the neighbooring school district Lakeland. And it just devolved from there.

And I know that it didn't help much that she wasn't wearing her seatbelt. In fact she probably could have lived. But I'm not even going to shift the blame immediately and say it was her fault she died. There were many factors in this entire situation. Such as the mother driving while intoxicated.

And I don't know exactly everything. Alexa is going to have to answer as to why the hell they went in the car when the mother was drunk. But from what I know, I know that this wasn't an isolated incident. Apparently the mother has driven them/alone drunk on occasion.

There are still a lot of questions to be answered and a lot of us are left out in the dark. We simply won't know until following days. All I know is that someone I knew died and nearly all of my friends are an emotional trainwreck. And I'm concerned about one person in particular as he and Emily were extremely close and he appears to be slowly withdrawing.

Thankyou very much for all the condolences you've given, and don't be hesitant to debate this because its a 'sensitive' subject. I'm asking a lot of the same questions and bringing up the same points, a lot of us are. But the only thing I do know is that you can't put all of the blame on one aspect for this tragedy. Shit royally hit the fan and we just have to get ourselves back on track.

Edit:
If any of you care, the story has been updated.
