The two that really impressed over the last year were:-

"Ash: A Secret History" by Mary Gentle

"Perdido Street Station" by China Mieville

Just wondering what floated other folks boats.

Btw - the reason that I put this here and not on "AD&D & Other Fantasy RPG Novels" is I have never read a Forgotten Realms book (though an ominously large book entitled "Legacy of the Drow - collectors edition" by R.A.Salvatore is lying beside my bed........)

Timeline - Michael Crichton

True period piece with some sci-fi flare.

Mouse, you can put any books you like in the Fantasy & RPG forum! They are not the least bit strict about the category, lol!

I've just been reading 'Diary of a Nobody' by George and Weedon Grossmith, A Stainless Steel Rat is Born by Harry Harrison (umpteenth time) and LOTR yet AGAIN!

good one, caleb.
a series that i find myself re-reading more than any is the Miles Vorkosigan books written by Lois McMaster Bujold. They are ripping-good reading, part space-opera and political/personal/spy type action. She does every bit as good a job of developing the main character as Card did in the ender series, but with alot more humor.

I read a small animal novel called "Finn The Wolfhound" (YES THAT'S DEFINATELY ONE FOR YOU WOLFGIR)

Its about a wolfhound who get abandoned and lonely and a struggle for survival like a real wild wolf would.

Love it - always have it with me.

Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie - GREAT fairytale!
Ian McEwan - Enduring Love - heartbreaking
The Sorrow, Memory, Thorn books by Tad Williams - have to admit he's a fine fine storyteller
Terry Pratchett - Carpe Jugulum
rereading Aldous Huxley's "The Devils of Loudun" - very interesting historical reconstruction
and last but not least, the books that my Lit. professor would severely frown upon the Dragonlance trilogy by Weis and Hickman

These are not my favorites, mind, just the ones I most recently read
