Whenever I restart my computer this window comes up and is shuting something down. It allows me to "End Now", but sometimes it will do it two or three times. Any gurus out there that can explain this one? Windows "Help Center" has no listing. (Figures

Some quick googling shows it to be related to how Windows tracks media events (things running in WMP, etc.).
Anything new been done or added to the system recently (like before this started happening)?

Hey, I really should have googled! The first site I came to had this as a reply to the same question from some else:
"It's part of Windows Media Player, and your browser has probably hooked it for playback of something. Sadly, there are a billion reasons it could be stalling, and most of the experiences I've found are grossly anecdotle. Common suspects appear to be codecs or plugins. Suggestions I've found pretty much revolve around remembering what got added, and removing it. Remember to check what's living in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files , you'll often end up with a few codecs living in there as WMP automatically fetches them. Lots of times, they'll appear in there with names like {943855003404} or whatnot. Worst case, you can also possibly mask the issue by telling IE to not hook WMP (e.g. turn off all of the "in-browser" multimedia and net radio stuff in IE). Media player will still stall, but IE won't be tied to it. Bleh. ![]() P.S. Thanks Bungleau [ 02-05-2006, 02:01 PM: Message edited by: LordKathen ]
