As some of you know (and some of you don't) I'm studying computer sciences in a french university in Lyon, currently in the third year (last year of Batchelor course for those in the other system). The university offers a possibility of doing a year abroad either in fourth or fifth year (first or second year of Masters).

Basically I am looking at two possibilities at the moment. One of them is doing a double diploma with the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. The big advantage of this is that I shall have two diplomas without doing any supplementary years of studying (french and US diploma), the inconvenient is that I have to pay around 8 000 $ of fees + lodging + travel and food for the year.

The second possibility is doing a year or just a semester in a university from the list below (these aren't the only possibilities, but these are the ones, which interest me at the moment). There aren't any fees in this case, but I don't get a double diploma either.

The universities for the second possibility are (I might be wrong in the names as I'm translating them from french ):

UK:
Leeds University
Oxford University

Australia:

Sidney Technical University
Monash University
Queensland Technical University
Queensland University
UNSW

some canadian universities (here I'm looking for those who do courses in english and not french, so I'm not sure which ones are these, on the possible list I have universities in Montréal, Hull, Laval, McGill, Sherbrooke, Concordia, Trois Rivières)

Lesser possibilities (if not english speaking country then the courses are in english):

Sweden: KTH Stockholm
Finland: Helsinki University, Helsinki Technical University, Turku University
England: Bath
Norway: Trondheim

What I am looking for is help in whether these universities have good computer science courses and whether anyone has already had prior experiences with them, or has heard of their reputation.

Not sure about some of those universities, here are the ones I know of.
McGill: Excellent university, not sure about comp. sci.
Waterloo: THE computer science university in Canada.
Concordia: If a jew/arab, STAY AWAY.

No, quite surprisingly there aren't any dutch universities in the list of universities where we can go.

Let's see how many IW'ers we can bring to the US!

You'd be joining Memnoch and I don't even remember who else.

McGill is one of the best Canadian universities. I wouldn't want to go there myself though.. it's in Quebec and my French is a little rusty.

My brother recently submitted his PhD in computer science at Queensland Uni (actually called University of Queensland ) - we have an excellent and large computer science program.

UQ also has one more notable feature - me

The University of Alberta wasn't on your list? I'm likely going there myself this coming year. Heaven knows what courses though.
