Check the story here.

Short summary:

Quote:

Reporter: Alice Plate

An outback pub in southwest Queensland has all but run out of beer and rum thanks to bored farmers left twiddling their thumbs by recent rain.

Nindigully has swelled from its usual population of nine to more than 200, as wet weather forced farmers and truck drivers to stop work.

Several inches of rain have fallen around the southern border district prompting locals to head to the Nindigully hotel, 600km west of Brisbane, to pass the time until their crops dry out.

The local hotel owner Steve Burns he's praying more supplies of beer and rum arrive soon.

"If the truck doesn't turn up till Friday we're in all sorts of trouble,” A worried Mr Burns predicts.

“The truckies get a little bit toey if they can't get a take away carton to sit down on the river and have a beer. I think they will get pretty stressed if we run out.”

He says the dark clouds are gathering again over Nindigully, which doesn’t bode well for his eagerly awaited consignment of booze.

“I don't like to be the weather forecaster but if it rains again, we’re in trouble."

And the shortage won’t go away when the grog arrives – unless Nindigully drinkers can aquire a taste for warm beer.

“Monday morning I ordered what would be pretty close to a semi trailer load or 12 tonnes of beer and spirits to replace what they drank.

“We're waiting on the grog like expectant fathers because it takes us 24 hours minimum to chill it down.”

The horror, the horror...

I'd be willing to send them beer, (From Johnny's stock!) for a couple inches of that rain!

And I'm willing to send you a couple of inches of our rain for some of your beer (or Johnny's), Felix.

That's what you get for living the the outback. I live in a modern, well developed society, that never runs out of booze.

I'm surprised the owner wasn't shot. I understand Aussies are almost as fanatical about their beer as the Dutch.

Almost. But we love our Bundaberg Rum even more. It's the national spirit mate!

Hmm, it couldn't be more than 600km from Bundaberg to this little place. Isn't this why helicopters 'n stuff were invented?

Breaks into Slim dusty mode and begins to sing....

It's lonesome away from your kindred and all

By the campfire at night where the wild dingos call

But there's nothin' so lonesome, so dull or so drear

Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer

Now the publican's anxious for the quota to come

There's a faraway look on the face of the bum

The maid's gone all cranky and the cook's acting queer

What a terrible place is a pub with no beer

The stockman rides up with his dry, dusty throat

He breasts up to the bar, pulls a wad from his coat

But the smile on his face quickly turns to a sneer

When the barman says suddenly: "The pub's got no beer!"

There's a dog on the verandah, for his master he waits

But the boss is inside drinking wine with his mates

He hurries for cover and he cringes in fear

It's no place for a dog round a pub with no beer

Then in comes the swagman, all covered with flies

He throws down his roll, wipes the sweat from his eyes

But when he is told he says, "What's this I hear?

I've trudged fifty flamin' miles to a pub with no beer!"

Old Billy, the blacksmith, the first time in his life

Has gone home cold sober to his darling wife

He walks in the kitchen; she says: "You're early, me dear"

Then he breaks down and he tells her that the pub's got no beer

It's lonesome away from your kindred and all

By the campfire at night where the wild dingos call

But there's nothin' so lonesome, so dull or so drear

Than to stand in the bar of a pub with no beer
