I have an old P3 system (hoping to get a whole new system with DVD by the end of the year). I used to run 98SE a few years ago and when I built it I purchased a CD R/RW Rom drive packaged with Nero 5. Since that time I had to reformat,I loaded Windows XP Professionl, and my CD-ROM died. I was getting my CD Burns done on another computer but I have found I need my home PC to do this work.
So I reinstalled Nero 5 but I can't get it to burn. It doesn't seem to recognize my new Rom Drives. I am also wondering if my N5 copy only worked with the one it came bundles with. I went to Nero's website and they do have some support but I am uncomfortable changing out a .dll file. Otherwise I'd just use N5 and get more uptodate software for my new rig. I also have a feeling that both XP and the new ROMs conflict with N5 due to age. Any suggestions about getting N5 running and if not what other Burn software do you recommend that is easy. Thanks! |

I have XP home, and installeed a DVD-ROM in my PC recently that came with Nero movie express something or other...and that replaced my older version of Nero that I had for my TDK CD-R, RW. But I am not at a loss because WinXP has a built-in CD burning program that does what I need it to. I did not see you mention in your post that you prefer not to use the Windows version of CD burning...so I have to ask if you are even aware of it or does it not do what you want it to?

If you explore the drive with a blank CDR in, you will be able to copy files to it and then burn the files to the CD.
But if you wanted to burn a .iso image or do a bitwise copy, you will need proper software. Personaly, I use Nero 6. |

Free, can handle anything, to include .iso!
I replaced both Nero and CD creator when I went to WinXP, as both were older and not supported, as is your version 5. WinXp does a fair enough job, but is incapable of .iso http://www.deepburner.com/

You can add a small powertoy to XP which supports iso.
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm Although I don't do a lot of burning, this combined with XP's native burner support has been quite sufficient.

My best experiences are with Alcohol 120%, but it's not free. Not sure what's on your mind here, but there's nothing this proggy can't handle.
