How many of you find a folder called "Xerox" in your list of programs in C/Programfiles ? It contains one other folder called "nwwia" and has a seize of a whopping 0 kb. So it's really nothing, has absolutely no function whatsoever, takes no harddiscspace, doesn't mess up your system or anything, but it's there nonetheless. Somehow it has Windows thinking it's important and is therefore protected from deletion.
I've found this when i went looking for answers, and apparently it isn't all that hard to get rid of it, the only problem is.....it RETURNS. I've killed it before, but it keeps coming back. And then it just sits there, doing nothing bad i can think of, yet it still doesn't belong in my list of programs. What the hell does it want ?

I got one. I noticed it before. Thought it was some kind of virus file, until i saw it contained nothing. Xerox is some kind of US photocopying firm isn't it?

no one knows for sure, but it's thought to be spyware installed by Microsoft. Check for a folder called "microsoft frontpage" with subfolder "version3.0" and then sub-subfolder "bin." That could also be spyware installed by Microsoft. Notice how all these folders, including xerox, are written in all lowercase letters. Microsoft starts every folder with a capitol letter, although these folders are there the moment you first turn on your computer and they are in all lower case. I attempted to figure out what it really is about a year ago, but I came up short-handed.

It's a conspiracy! Illuminati put it there as a targetting device for their mind-control beams!

Cant find anything consistent on it. Lots of people jumping to conclusions that because nobody seems to know what it is, it must be responsible for their computer being insecure. Lots of people assuming it must be something to do with a spyware they have because the spyware has the word 'xerox' in the title. In short, lots of idiots.
One guy says M$ told him this is only included with OEM winXP. Dosent say what its for. Some association with windows image aquisition has been suggested. Ah. Interesting. http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=kb;ja;418634 But, searching MSDN for \xerox\nwwia\ or even just nwwia dosent turn up any english equivalent. Someone here must be able to speak japanese? My take on it? Ignore it, its benign.

I will ask the guys in the AV and development labs tomroow and see what they turn up. We have a a strong (but soon to be competitive) relationship with MS. So I will see what I can turn up.

So you know, two programs have jumped into the folder.
"xrxflnch" which is "Xerox Network Scanning FTP Launcher" they can be deleted freely, but come back instantly, esp when they are. © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

If windows developers are anything like me, they've put this feature in to stump idiots and waste their time thinking about it

I have the "xerox" folder, but it's in C:/Programs and not C:/Program Files.
