Why can’t a tap stay a tap instead of an ergonomically designed sensory equipped pre programmed personal hygiene aqua-delivering faucet concept device!
![]() I spent hours troubleshooting and finally fixing a new infra red tap inside the first class toilet of one of our aircraft today. Has technology disappeared up its own rectum when to fix a tap that won't supply water I have to change a control box worth well over a $1000 that only has (lots of) electric cables attached to it, yet no water pipe or valve. Anybody else got a story of technology gone to far?

That sounds like it, Wellard! Some things get so complicated it takes twice as much time and money to fix them as it would if they were left the way they had been before the 'improvements'! I had an old manual typewriter that lasted for over 20 yrs but they stopped making the ribbons for it. An electric one we got in my office lasted about two years before it needed servicing and after the second time it got serviced we were told it would cost more to fix than to replace!
So you end up changing a majorly expensive bit of electronic equipment to make water flow from a faucet.... or buy a whole new typewriter, when a few letters are misfiring, because the repair is more involved and costly than a new machine.....*shakes head* You may be right, technology is mostly into impressing itself in some areas.

technology gone too far, eh? did you know the head sets used in most fast food restaurants are very very expensive? and yet they never do work right (hey there's a tomato on my sandwhich!) i'm glad we have a McD's close by that has face-to-face ordering.
either way i was told that the battery pack for one of the simple headsets that clips to the belt was $1000. i can't imagine the price of those all in one headsets.

the headsets we use are 700 dollars for the little black box, and 300 for the actual headgear.
about 50% of the time atleast one of the headsets is not working proporly; the rest of the time they seem OK except for occasional wierd noises and blind spots in the signal (wierd that a 10x10 room can have blank spots like cell phones do in mile wide areas) |

Hmmm... not on the same level, but my Brother multipurpose printer/fax/etc. has one component, a print head, that when it goes bad, you might as well junk the whole thing. Note that I said "when", and not "if"... my next one won't be a Brother. I really like the machine, except for this little expensive quirk.

This reminds me of how so many TV commercials give you the impression that most most high-tech and revolutionary advancements are in the realm of personal hygeine lol.
Like how every spinning toothbrush is a masterpiece of design, and every razor with more than one blade is some kind of breakthrough in technology that will revolutionize the way we...oh that's right, they just get rid of hair. Right... |
