Find familiars?

Hi what are familiars? are there any in the game that enemys possess?
what are the pros and cons of them other than losing 1 pt of constitution

do they live long? against lichs dragons etc... and can you control their actions?

on a side note when i dual my kensai to mage..which proficiency should i invest in? and do i regain proficiency that my kensai had once i surpassed his lvl as a mage?

i read somewhere in this forum that you can get yoshimos black heart and once you return to a temple you receive 200k exp

the problem is i killed yoshimo and he didnt drop it

do i need him in the asylum in order to get his heart? because im having great deal of trouble right now even with keldorn minsc and valygar in my party..primarily because aerie dies in 2 hits and shes the only person that can ressurrect or restore lost levels

So to summarize the last question i jsut wanted to know if yoshimo has to be in the party when you face irenicus for the first time..then does he turn his back on you? or can u disband him and have a party of 6 without him and would he turn his back on you at the asylum then? i just want the black heart : )

Lansun,

as far as I know Yoshimo has to be with you in the asylum - there's some dialogue where he expresses regret and sets the scene for the heart 'quest'. If he's not with you then it doesn't happen.

Re Aerie - have you done the Unseeing Eye quest ? The Girdle of Fortitude sets CON to 18 for 8 hours - very handy for low HP characters

I say you should always get a familiar if you're a mage. You get extra hitpoints, and you can just leave it in your inventory slot forever and never endanger it. Some of them are good in a fight.. but I don't like putting the familiar in danger, because then you lose a constitution point and the hitpoints you had previously gained. However, you can instantly summon another one if it dies... in contrast to traditional rules, which require one year and one day (Hey, wonder what happens on Shieldmeet years?)

and big thanks for the help ID...so just to make things clear..once u cast find familiar..and its part of the party..it just stays in the quick item slot on the char or is it the inventory? and my second question is..do you double click on it to activate it? and is it possible to heal the familiar or bring it back in the inventory so it is away from harm

When initially casting the spell, the familiar appears on the screen (much like a summoned monster) and you can control it. You can also click on the "talk" button (next to the quick-weapon buttons) to speak with it. You can tell it to go in your pack where it's safe, and it will. When it's in your inventory slot (not quickslot) you can make it come back out by right-clicking on it to view its description and click "release familiar"
And yes, you can heal it when it's out of your pack.

i know the answer to this is a spoiler, but here goes. i have yoshimo's heart, but right now i'm trapped in the underdark. what does the heart do in the future?

Later on when your back on the surface, just bring the heart to the Temple of Illmater and talk to the priest to put poor Yoshi's Soul at rest.

A boatload of XP, I'm talking 200K here. And no, Yoshimo cannot be resurrected after this. But hey, you did save his soul!

only the mage which has to be your pc can summon forth a familiar

had to find it the hard way

are there any other familiar scrolls in the game?
im not sure but i think i found mine in nalias keep..i think so..not quite sure though
