I use Microsoft ME on my computer and I’ve been thinking of changing to XP home eddition. Is it worth it? I really only use my machine these days for gaming and the odd bit of Word and Excel, plus internet.

win 2000, is the fastest, although winXP is probably more organised, although if you have never used it before you will be in for a shock, as it is totally different from all the others.

I changed my OS from W98 to XPHome last year, because I wanted a little bit more RAM ( 2GB today ) . No problems with hard- or software up to now.

imo, windows XP has more compatibilty and the same stabilty of win2000. i prefer win2000 if u are just using anything except games. For games windows XP is better

Windows XP (i use PRO) is excelent, it is more stable, it is compatable with much more hardware. Basically if you have around 256 meg of ram windows XP is excelent. I used to run win xp pro on a pentium II 266 with 192 meg of ram, it was slow but supprisingly not to bad, so if your system is anywhere around that you could easily go for it.

If you opt for Xp, then take no lessthan PRO. Trust me, Home edition is for users that can't tell the difference between a monitor and a printer(no offense intended).

XP Pro and Home are basically the same under the covers (aside from some networking differences). Home has some ease of use changes, but all that stuff can be shut off and it'll look just like Pro. Just don't try to log into a domain.
There may be some other differences that I didn't run accross... but I doubt anything major. Either 2000 or XP is a huge upgrade from Millenium (which was the worst OS I've ever seen). |
