...I was wondering a few things the must require several passes to discover:

1, Does reputation have any impact on major long-term events?

2, Does allignment affect the story line? Ending?

3, Since experience cap forbids +17 level mages, why can you write level 9 spells? Is there an item that lets you memorize a level 9 spell if it is written?

4, What level *is* Irenicus? Is he a "legal" demi-human character?

5, What is a good order to take the *major* missions in so that you minimize reloads but maximize level gaining?

1) Rep doesn't have a MAJOR impact.. though if you have a high rep it tends to make some people like you and thus make the game *slightly* easier.
2) I'm not sure, but I think not
3) You can cast Level 9 mage spells in Throne of Bhaal
4)I think Irenicus is Level 29.. So he's not really legal, because the XP cap won't let you get that high
5) Rephrase the question, please

it has an effect on many in-game things, like for paladins and rangers it must stay above 8, you need a 10+ rep to have Anomen knighted, and Jaheira needs a 10+ rep to get her harper pin (for her romance), it also affects prices in stores.

2, Does allignment affect the story line? Ending?
In ToB there are 4 (i think) endings, one for good, evil, neutral and one other that all can get (5 if you count when you die)

there are also things you can do within the storyline depending on your alignment, like poisoning the druid grove, making the humanskin armor, etc but the plot happens the same way regardless of your alignment.

3, Since experience cap forbids +17 level mages, why can you write level 9 spells? Is there an item that lets you memorize a level 9 spell if it is written?

In ToB the exp cap is raised (you can also get exp cap removers for BG2 which will get you high enough level to use the spells)

4, What level *is* Irenicus? Is he a "legal" demi-human character?

if you have cheats on +Q him, and he'll join your party, check him out for yourself (I believe his diferent incarnations are of diferent level) and no he is not a "legal" character

5, What is a good order to take the *major* missions in so that you minimize reloads but maximize level gaining?
the order I do mine in is 1 nalia's keep, 2 Windspear hills (personal choice, if you do it right and have lots of luck you can do the dungeon without reloading), 3 Unseeing Eye, 4 (misc stronghold, if not already covered), 5 umar hills, 6 trademeet, 7 druid grove, 8 planar sphere, 9 spellhold, 10 Sahuagin city, 11 underdark, 12 finish anything left over and end game

1. No
2. No, just the way you should roleplay.
3. You can't use them if you write them. I don't know why you can write them. (maybe trick a new player?)
4. Don't know what lvl he is but he is (or was, Ellesime tells it in Suldannesselar) an elf.

Thanks all!

Well, it is quite obvious he is an elf, but as with the "monsters" I was wondering if he had just been given insane Wisdom/Intelligence and assigned a load of spells and scrolls.

Oh well, I'll DL the cheat and try it out just to see.

Rep DOES have one longterm effect: higher rep= more money and/or better items. Same thing with charisma. They reduce item prices, so you do infact end up with a fair bit more money to spare.

The Irenicus you fight at the Tree of Life is a level 30 wizard. He has 13 str, 14 con, 17 chr, 18 int, 18 wis, and *21* dexterity.. one would think he would lose elven-bordering-on-superpowered dexterity when he lost his elven-ness, but let's not quibble. He has 9 level 2 wizard spells, 8 level 3, 5 level 7, 8 level 6, 4 level 7, 7 level 8, and 8 level 9.
In Hell, his stats are all warped(People who've played the game know what I mean, and those who don't, be glad I didn't spoil anything.)

Low reputation will trigger the authorities to go after you.
Low repuation causes prices at shops to skyrocket, ever paid 40,000Gps for an item?
Low reputation will cause Rangers and Paladins to revert to Fallen status.
Low reputation will cause the Jaheira romance/quest to end badly.

So no, reputation have no long-term effects...

Your alignment will affect the ending of ToB.

Actually your alignment has a very minor effect on the ending of ToB, your conversations with solar (determining the chalenges you'd be granted) control which ending you'd get.
