lets just not hope this will come to pass. Everything has its own nightmares.. just a whileago, i was walking down the road with a mate of mine when all of a sudden a car passes by like 90kph at a 40 kph zone. scary and he was swerving left and right.. not drunk but he is a beginner driver.. think they own the road or something.
![]() Just be careful mate !

Dnt be daft Megabot, I understand what your saying but come on, seriously you cannot change your job due to unforseen circumstances that may or may not come to pass.
If someone is on your side of the road, if someone drives into your truck it ISNT your fault, and you should not feel bad. If you crash and it is your fault, then you do have to live with the consequences, but this could happen in a private car. Just my thoughts.

There's a flip side to this coin. In East KY where I grew up, coal trucks OWN the road, and act accordingly. It's a pretty common occurrence for someone to die in an accident with one, especially when they blow through yellow/red lights because they are hard to stop when full and are going too fast to begin with.
Well, one of my best best friend from childhood was crossing a road when a coal truck going too fast hit his car, killing his pregnant wife. Last I heard, he hasn't stopped drinking yet, and has been in a depression for 8 years. Now, I give truckers room on the road, and I am sensitive to how much of a pain in the arse it is for them if I make them lose speed by swerving in front of them (as it takes so long for them to gain speed). OTH, there are good truckers and bad truckers out there. Among the ones that annoy me are those who pass another truck on an incline, going only 2-3 mph faster than the truck they ware passing. That's plain inconsiderate. Anywho, just some thoughts. [ 11-17-2003, 05:58 PM: Message edited by: Timber Loftis ] |

I can understand how you feel, Megabot! When I first got my licence I was in my final year of high school, and my mum said I could borrow her car once a week to drive to school. But I didn't because I'd seen the way all the students milled outside after school and crossed the road whenever they felt like it and ran in front of cars - even if an accident wasn't my fault, how devastating would it be to run someone over! Which is petty compared to being in charge of a huge truck which could easily kill someone, regardless of whose fault it was. I guess you just have to drive as carefully as you can, and be aware that these drivers are out there. I would imagine the likelihood of actually hitting someone would be reasonably low as well.

I know semi-trucks and trailers can be a pain, but we need to learn to give them proper consideration. These things are not easy to drive folks! There is limited visibility and the size is cumbersome. When driving downhill, they are at a serious disadvantage. Down south, they actually have places off the side of the road at the bases of long hills/mountains filled with soft deep sand for truckers to drive into if they find their brakes failing.

Oh, and you'd think the kid learned his lesson, but he hasn't. He still swaggers around, more than before if that's possible. Grrr! |
