Obviously you can't tell as you don't know what size i am, but when they quote all these numbers selling cloth, i need to know i am in the right region. Like my shirt saids: 16 / 41 What does that mean? I don't want to be asked what my chest size is and say 16... or maybe it is.. i dunno. All i know is i wear 32inch trousers with short legs... Anyhow I am looking for a nice tuxedo for may balls coming up.... plz help

I'm guessing the 16 is collar size. The other measurement on shirts is sleeve lenght, but I don't think that the 41 (unless you're built like an ape).

![]() And yes Avatar, 16 is your collar size, hence you need to measure your neck to get your shirt size.

I am guessing you are measuring in inches. Cause 16 cm would make you a pixie, and 16 m would make you something I would never want to piss off!
Anyway for shirt sizes, 16/41 usually means 16" neck and 41" chest. Another common measure is insleave (armpit to cuff). For pants the common measures are waist and inseam. If you are looking for formal wear, don't use your regular jeans sizes. Dress slack are worn higher on the waist than jeans are. For best fit, just go to a formal wear store, the taylor will size you for custom fit.

Er sorry no, you're all wrong except for Willow who was being too subtitle
![]() 16 is the collar size in inches, 41 is the collar size in cm. They both refer to the collar. Most off-the-peg men's formal shirts in the UK are sold by collar size. Nothing mystical about it! Casual shirts tend to be sold in Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), or Extra Large (XL). The best thing to do is try them on before you part with your cash to make sure it fits. If you're going to a tailor rather than buying off-the-peg, the tailor will take all the measurements he needs, so don't worry about that. He will know how much fabric you require to make your shirt and tux. [ 04-26-2003, 09:15 AM: Message edited by: Epona ]

Avatar,
Go to a nice mens shop and inquire about a tuxedo. If it is too expensive (as it is for most students) go to a rental place and they will fit you with everything. "Nice" shirts don't come in S,M,L. You get what you pay for - er..rent. Good luck!
