In 10 days time my plane leaves for Britain, via America (Los Angeles to be precise). A one month vacation is planned. Britain, Rome, Paris, LA. I'll see the sights and all that good touristy stuff It was going to be a family affair, but my family is now thinking of pulling out due to the impending war in Iraq and possible counter-attacks against Britain and the USA. So, what was going to be a great time together going to new places and seeing new things, may end up being a very lonely trip indeed. There's no way in hell I'm not taking this trip, I've saved too damn long and hard to pull out at the last minute.
Hopefully my family will still come along. But what I'm wondering is what would your decision be in the same situation? Most of you live in either Europe or the United States, does fear of attack govern when, where and how you travel? Should I listen to my family and cancel the vacation?
The day I constrict my life for fear of bullying violence is the day that bullying violence wins. But is getting out and seeing the world worth risking my life? I think so, but others may see things differently. What do you think?

Question Mark

What if you get out of bed in the morning, trip over your shoes, fall down, hit your head, and lie there unconscious for several hours? What if you get into a car accident on the way to work? What if? What if? What if?

You can "what if" yourself into a psychiatric ward with a severe case of agorophobia and severe panic attakcs if you let "what if" govern your life. I could only hope to have the chance to take a month-long vacation to Europe any time soon.

Get up! Get going! Buy film! Have a great time!

Enjoy yourself on your trip. You have a greater chance of being hit and killed by lighting then being killed by terrorist.

Go Go Go

the places you are going to are not hotbeds of terroism, with the upgrade in security they should be as safe as you can get in this crazy world.

I first scoffed at the idea that terroism would put me off going anywhere, then I remembered the holiday to Bali that the wife, kids and I were going to go to this winter (june/july). Its not the threat of bombs that have made us think again but the worry over demonstrations and general antagonism from the minority but still large muslim population.

My answer to that is definitely NO!

I have to admit, that I'm a couch potato, but I still refuse to check my favourite furniture every evening!

Enjoy your trip! It's life we all should enjoy instead of fearing death. (sorry, if that sounds lofty...)

I don't see any point in adding an answer since it seems to be clear what the general feel about the situation is. Go out and enjoy your holiday! Don't let anything like this stop you from enjoying life. There are always risks involved with any flight, some of which have a higher risk of happening than a terrorist attack! Enjoy your holiday! Thank you for all of your replies. It's heartening to read your words of encouragment. I'll be sure to let my family know that I'm not the only one that thinks as you do.

And by the way, it looks like the trip will be going ahead. My mother is a little jittery, but she'll be fine
