If they actually decide to erect the building it will be a very impressive sight, but I beleive there's still a lot of conterversy whether anything should actually be built there.

Wow, a 1776-ft tower. That's 600 ft. taller than the WTC was. The article mentions "toped by gardens." I hope it doesn't mean "on the tall tower." Lately, I've been wondering about the usefulness of such tall buildings. Sears Tower (here) is like 1450 ft. and 110 stories.

I know attorneys who worked at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal (self-proclaimed tallest law firm on the planet) who can attest to windows being blown out. There are urban legends of Sears Towers executives getting blown out with the window, and then being blown back in before they fell.

You get the point, though. The building sways noticeably - sometimes uncomfortably. I know that down on the 21st floor my wall pops and cracks due to structure shifts.

Well the desgin is beautiful. I don´t see the need for the trememdous height though (of course that goes for any building).

Timber, your experiences in your office sounds terrifying.

Well, I can only see 2 problems with it. #1 is that since so many people died there the place is fairly haunted at the moment. I have read stories about voices crying for help and people seeing ghostly images of the towers and the rescuers. The ghost activity could cause some major problems with any construction in the area. In fact , the construction could make it worse because so much mental energy from people living in NYC would be directed at the site.

#2 is that some people wont dont want any construction to go on there and might try to stop it in a less than legal way. The crazies out there might cause the deaths of construction workers in the name of their pet cause.

Perhaps I was unclear, Willow. The Sears Tower sways noticably at higher floors. I am one block away, on the 21st floor. But, I know the swaying must be true because even on this floor in a building that's only 30 floors tall I hear popping sounds in the wall/window that come with pressure, wind, and temperature changes.

Once again, this is only my opinion. I work accross from where it would be & would see it every day after its built. Guys, I have to tell you...in only my humble opinion...that this design is Ugly As Sin. Honestly, people, what was he thinking of??? It looks like a bad movie set of Jorel's home on Krypton from Superman I.

People are already griping globally that towers shouldn't be included in the 'worlds tallest building' stats. I honestly think they should go back to the drawing board. How about a slightly smaller scale replica of the twin towers? Never mind....its too late now.

PS- Yes, I've seen them appear in fog several times. Radio stations say its a mental trick because my eyes were used to seeing it there. I can't say anything more than that it looked like them to me, though...

Are they miserably ugly? Yes. It is unnecessary to build them so high? Without a doubt.

Should they be built? Certainly. I can't imagine anything that the Osama-followers would like more than some empty space, or some huge tribute to the dead. I mean, if ever they wanted something that would serve as a reminder of the 'success' of their 'cause', that would be it.

By building the towers and by getting on with life, it's the slap in the face that their ilk can't stand. They resent America's power, so they knocked down the biggest symbols of that power. The result? Bigger towers, better symbols. It'll burn them.

Just remember, you arent the only one who has seen them.THere have been qute a few people who claim to have seen the towers just flicker into reality out of no where. The WTC site is listed on a few lists for haunted places in the U.S.

Well it is a hard road indeed, Make it into a natural park, in the middle of the concrete jungle it would help a bit. I'm all for progress and what have you, but hey we need to have respect also and building on a mass grave can have some rather undesirable effects, whether you believe in the supernatural or not.
In a Restauraunt that I worked in, while the place was being built an electrician got himself hard wired so to speak on one of the lights in the back room. He was killed instantly Now they replaced all the wireing and light fixture etc.. but it was never bright or exactly warm in that spot since, the light would just dim underneath that spot. True story.
