Most of the news these days is of suffering and death. Here is something to be very happy about!
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/030222/80/dtuyu.html I hope this works. They need to figure out something soon. Africa is being decimated by AIDS. ![]() |

Interesting! I hadn't heard about this. I do hope it works, it's been a long time in coming and so many people need the help!

Well it is only a question of time and resources before we crack this one. I know there are some other very promising substrates as well in trials. Let´s hope this one works.

Sounds Great if it works, but I wonder if all those poor HIV-infected people in Africa and Asia will benefit from this. People there might not have the necessary cash to buy the vaccine so the company who makes it might not be interested in selling it in those areas. A shame really, but I hope for the best. Recent announcements indicate thast the jubilation was premature. The guys running the study, said that overall the vaccine was a failure, there were some encouraging results though and minorities seemed to respond to the vaccine better than other groups.

They also said that since the minorities did respond, they can start studying why they responded better to the vaccine than caucasians (sp?) and that the results of those study may lead to a better vaccine. Any advancement is good news in my book. Hopefully in the next few years AIDS will no longer be the death sentence it usually is now. Heck, look at how much longer people with HIV and AIDS are living compared to 10 years ago. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is the beginning of the end.
