Cool stuff. I met a scientist in 1998 while doing climate change work that had designed a more efficient and more novel "windmill" for underwater use - but, looks like these guys are using more traditional type mills. Oh well, government contracts go to the lowest bidders.

This sounds like a good idea to me I just hope one day that they get it to a reasonable cost so this could possibly be a widespread energy device

It sounds like a good idea, but only coastal areas are going to be able to make much use of this obviously. When I came in here I thought it was something about that chemical Jabidas told me about. What was it again?

Vast majority of the world's population inhabits coastal areas. Plus, if Enron can run a scam where it sends power out of CA and then sells it back, I think it's pretty well settled that where the generating plant is located is not terribly limiting on power supply (though *some* energy is lost in the lines, to be sure).

Penn State did research on the environmental impacts of wind and tidal energy recovery. Both forms of energy collecting do have a definite impact on the ecologies of the surrounding environment.

I just wanted to point it out now before the radical eco-protectionists come out later and condemn us for promoting such a harmful raping of the environment
