They have been around slightly longer - it was just some businessman that started calling them teddy-bears. Ironic when you think that Teddy liked to hunt and kill bears.

That´s where the name comes from. Well, the story about the teddy bear is that Teddy R refused to shoot a tied up cub. The picture of tat got in the papers and a shop keeper made a bear plushie. He then wrote and asked Mr Roosevelt if he could use his name... That´s the story anyways
