When you get the equilizer made I noticed there are like two blades or two different handles(whatever you call them). Does it matter what pieces he builds it with?

The equalizer consists of:
Gem of the equalizer
hilt of the equalizer
blade of the equalizer

There are no other blades or hitls for the equalizer, though there are more magical weapons
Right-click on the pieces and read about them, that should tell you what weapon they can make.

No the two blades have no real significance. Bioware just put it there to make it look cool. But all it does is make the sword look dumb and unrealistic.

Normally, it is a +3 sword, and can then hit creatures like Liches.
But if the Lich is True Neutral of alignment, it cant be hitted by the sword, cause then it is only like a normal Longsword (1d8).
If the Lich is Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Neutral, it still cant be hitted, cause then the sword is 1d8+1.
If the Lich is Neutral Good, Neutral Evil, it still cant be hitted, cause then the sword is 1d8+2.
If the Lich is one of the others, it can be hit, cause then the sword is 1d8+3.

Gives a picture on how bad the sword really is.

Are you thinking of the hilt and the blade off the silver sword (vorpal sword)? as well as the hilt and blade off the equilizer?

IMO, for what you have to go through to get the Equalizer's parts (in the underdark), it's just not worth it...not to mention that it's not upgradable in ToB. You're much better off with Carsomyr if you're a Paladin (or, if you have ToB installed, a thief-class as well ).

I eventually ended up giving the Equalizer to Nalia, since she could backstab with it (longsword) and had a better THAC0 than Imoen did. My main character held on to Celestial Fury instead, and alternated that with the Wave.

Cheers,
-Sazerac

I still haven't got all the pieces yet but from the description given it should always hit as +3 for those creatures needing +1 or better and so on . But Thaco and damage will be adjusted on a per creature alignment basis . So your true neutral lich should still be hitable just no bonuses .
