Has anyone played an assassin/mage. I have soloed an assassin to the Underdark and I really like the kit, but I was starting to wish I had dualled up to a mage.
If you have done this: 1) Was the character fun to play? 2) What were your stats? and 3) When did you dual? Thanks |

Hi Bob, I've done this many times, and it makes for a great-dual classed character when all's said and done. Believe it or not, but by being a mage/thief, you often end up with more spells than you would if you were a regular mage (Dakkon Zerth's blade grants you four extra spells and is not usable by straight mages, for example). My stats were:
STR 19 DEX 19 CON 16 INT 19 WIS 12 CHA 10 I went up to level 10 as an assassin before dualing to a mage. I had 84 hit points and an AC of -8, which is far better than your average spell-caster. As I say, I've played this class many times and it's endless fun. The possibilities are limitless and you easily become of the (if not the) most versatile character in BG II. Good luck |

Does a assassin have thieving skills like pickpocket and pick locks? If thats so, I'll trade him in for my kensai/mage immediately. Now I'm always dependent on a thief to open locks. I mean, im not gonna waste all my time using 'knock' on a lock and then rest again.

Even Better, use a swashbuckler/mage, you get the bonus AC every five levels, so if you were to dual at level 10 (and had 18 dex) you would start off the mage with 3 AC, you can also get two slots in all the theif weapons and 3 in dual wield, yes there is no backstab, but i hardly ever use that anyway (and you can get Valygar to do it), it also makes you much more useful close up, sort of like a fighter/mage/theif without all the hassle of multi-class,
In my opinion, if you are intent on dualing from a theif, you should always start as a Swashbuckler
