UK Terror Scare

The UK has gone to its highest level of terror alert, indicating an attack is imminent, after police and intelligence services claim to have foiled a plot to attack planes leaving UK airports. New, stringent check-in security is in place, with only a clear plastic bag with document and essential medication etc allowed to be taken on as hand lugage. The US has I beleive also raised its level of terror alert as a response.

Yeah, its all over the news here on how the UK stopped a multiple plane attack. I think they said that as many as 10 planes were targets to carry some chemical crap.

I personally want to thank the British because my daughter was scheduled to fly home on Friday via British Airways. Both the British and the U.S. have been working together on this. Great job! I just want her back under my roof safe.

Sorry, this is a very grisly thing to say, but just to reassure you: If she's on British Airways she should be safe - last I heard was that all the targets were American airlines.

I'm watching the developments in this story as my wife and I leave for our anniversary in two days from LAX (Los Angeles). Trying to figure out how to pack and how much extra time we'll need to get through security.

Good job for British intelligence! I'm very glad they caught this one before it happened. It also goes to show that airplanes are still big targets for terrorists.

Some snippets I pulled out that seemed interesting...

At least one was reportedly a woman with a small child; two others were converts to Islam. One of the suspects reportedly worked at Heathrow Airport.

Scary thought that the life of the woman's child was considered an acceptable price for "martyrdom" aka mass murder. I cannot fathom what kind of mindset makes this seem acceptable.

A British police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation, said the suspects were "homegrown," though it was not immediately clear if all were British citizens. Tariq Azim Khan, the Pakistani minister of state for information, said "these people were born and brought up in the United Kingdom. Some of them may have parents who were immigrants from Pakistan."

As seen previously with the bus bombings last year, growing up British does not necessarily override the islamic call for loyalty only to islam and to terrorize and attack unbelievers until they are conquered.

The raids were carried out at homes in London, the nearby town of High Wycombe and in Birmingham, in central England. Police still guarded homes in High Wycombe, where the Muslim community expressed outrage that their community and children have been thrust into the international spotlight. "They are considered ordinary British Muslims and they haven't caused any harm to anyone," accountant Mohammed Naeem said of the suspects. "They come from decent families."

With "intelligent" statements like this maybe closer scrutiny of the muslim community should be conducted.

Imtiaz Qadir, of the Waltham Forest Islamic Association, said one of the suspects was a woman in her 20s who had a 6-month-old child. "They have taken the child too, because it needs to be with its mother."

Dear lord why? What is the reasoning that says a mother psychotic enough to want to kill both herself and her baby has any right to be anywhere near that child, I think personally it should be placed with a foster family who won't try to use it to murder innocents.

Neighbors identified another suspect as Don Stewart-Whyte, 21, from High Wycombe, a convert who changed his name to Abdul Waheed. "He converted to Islam about six months ago and grew a full beard," said a neighbor, who refused to be identified. "He used to smoke weed and drink a lot, but he is completely different now."

Sounds like a good change too

Apparently the Pakinstani authorities have been very helpful and have been arresting people in relation to this over the last week or so.

Excellent point BB, however, our free socities are not tolerant of this type of security. It would be become bothersome to the masses, ungainly to the pair that is considering how little to pack and how much time they might need. But, hey good job. Glad to hear it, yada, yada. Wait three days, and it will be back forgoten!
The free press has to report something of this magnitude every now and again or people will simply forget! No need to get in the corner, for you have shed the light to the truth.

I saw a platoon of Merk 4's on the news the other day, they looked good!

I live in a country when each second you can be possible victim of a terrorist. I serve 3 years in a places where death is my constant companion.

I got used to it, all of my nation got used to it, and so other nations can get used to it. Against terror you have to use whatever means possible. little discomfort is nothing compared to a terroristic act.
