A couple of quotes from the article:

BOSTON -- Should parents be allowed to spank their children? Massachusetts lawmakers will be debating that question following the filing of a bill that would ban corporal punishment in the commonwealth...

...But now, lawmakers are considering making "the willfull infliction of physical pain on children under 18," illegal....

I was spanked a few times as a kid, and I can't remember a single instance where it was undeserved or too harsh, and I think learning that improper behavior has negative consequences early in life made me a better adult. As a single guy with no children, some people will probably tell me to shut up 'cause I couldn't possibly know what I'm talking about, but I gotta say, I think if this passes MA parents will raise a generation of spoiled brats who never learned right from wrong.

Edit: Oops. I guess you might want to read the whole thing for yourselves. Here you go...

Can you imagine...thousands of kids losing thier parents to prison bars and being filed into foster homes all over the US ?

Then the kids would realize that they had ratted their mommy out, and cry and cry an cry.

I thought spanking was already illegal. Well, I say spanking should be allowed, but with a limit. I mean, kids should learn right from wrong, but we don't want the parents getting too angry.

Mm... You can't legislate parenting. There are already tons of unfit parents out there. Laws aren't going to change that unless we make people take written exams and interviews before they procreate.

I don't think you should ever spank, hit, or discipline out of anger, I know I don't, if Justice or Erilyn ever really get under my skin with misbehaving (gotta love the terrible twos) I go cool off, or send them to their room until I've cooled off, then discipline occurs, they know that I'm not reacting out of anger, and it makes a huge difference (if you hit when angry you teach them to hit when angry, and you're also more likely to cross the line into real abuse).

I intend to beat my kids when they deserve it. Corporal punishment is great for kids to young to make the connection between their actions and loss of privileges. I had to pick my switches as a kid, and I'd say I've had several dozen spankings. I intend to treat my kids no different. Spankings are one of several ways to discipline and build character, and NO MATTER WHAT THE LEGAL RULES ARE, I intend to use it.

IF the government has something to say about it, well I intend to have a gun and the willingness to use it, so they'll have to kill my whole family to get their point across.

In FACT, if I lived in that socialist state of Mass (as opposed to the socialist Daley fiefdom of Chicago), I think I'd take to systematically hunting down and shooting my legislators in the FACE if they voted in favor of this law.

I swear, the first time a federali/statie steps on MY property for any reason, he's (she's) getting an ASS FULL OF LEAD. Screw them all. I hate my government anyway -- and I'm willing to go down fighting to prove it.
