The Taliban have now offered to surrender, but this doesn't extend to the Al Queta members of the Taliban.

There are also reports Al Queta members are killing members of the Taliban who offer to surrender.

Ronn, it can't be extended to the Al-Qeada members. The Taliban and Al-Qeada are two separate entities... though some people might be involve in both groups, as a general rule of thumb, one group cannot speak for the other!

I realize they are separate groups with some joint members, didn't mean for it to sound confusing.

The Taliban have extended their hospitality to Al Queta in the past allowing for their training, etc. Since the Taliban in some areas have decided to offer surrender, Al Queta members have been killing them.

I know, isn't that funny that Al-Queada is doing our job

UPDATE

Not only are Taliban's who want to surrender being killed by Al Queta, they are also being killed by foreign Taliban. Those foreigners who came to Afghanistan to "aid" the Taliban are now killing Afghan Taliban members.

The Pakistani aren't the only ones though. Remember there are Saudis and even Muslim Brits amongst the numbers of those who rushed to join the Taliban to defend the people of Afghanistan.

Pretty obvious the point was never defending Afghans, but instead opposing Americans

No they are not doing our job. Remember that many of the 'Taliban' are ordinary people conscripted into the army. "Pick up the rifle or recieve a bullet" was the recruiting officer's words (according to a lot of independant sources). There *is* a distinction to be made between Taliban and Al-Queada. And there is a distinction to be made between Taliban army commanders and the regular troops...

There are also other reasons. I agree that big part of Taliban army are just people ordered to fight by conscription forces. Foreign elite troops (Chechens, Pakistani, Arabs etc..)are
- foreign - dont have cousins in Afghanistan, who would revenge them
- trained fanatics (elite)
- their bestiality is well known, so if opposite forces catch them, they kill them, not always in nice way.
There are also political reasons. Nobody except of Talibans need them. They are dangerous for all: Russians, Pakistan, nothern alliance, Americans... Most of Talibans are local people, and they or their relatives will live in Afghanistan. I wouldnt be surprised if there is an international agreement to kill all mecenaries - it is healthier way.

Well, thats very nice but do you think our bombs go "no, I can't blow up that AAA because the guy who's shooting is not a true Taliban". Give me a break... if he wears the uniform and stands in rank, he's the ennemy! Now, if our ennemy is fighting amongst itself, even better. That way, we don't have to kill the ennemy, he does it to himself!
