I think to get an accurate reaction, you'll have to succinctly post your feelings on Bin Laden here. Not quantifying Bin Laden in relation to the USA, it's actions or policies, but Bin Laden, himself. [This message has been edited by Ronn_Bman (edited 10-20-2001).] |

I have never said in "any" of my posts that I support bin laden, but it has been intimated. I just want to know if that is anyone's perception of me and to please point out what I've written that makes them think so. If there are many who do, then I will withdraw from this forum.
Thank you all very much. Mark |

I haven't gotten the impression that you sympathize with Bin Laden.

I think sometimes, you "point out what is wrong with American" so fervently, that it comes off as taking the anti-American side. Quote:

Not at all Mark,
Just like me, you despise him. However, I think you recognize the unfortunate reality of our responsibility (that of Western Civilization) in what happened on 9-11 (and before). That doesn't mean you support him, rather, it means that you have the guts to admit that yes, we had a part in it and that we're not the poor martyrs that we claim to be. Now, I also know that you are concerned that the comments or the tone of things that are posted here could offend some people. Bin Ladden supporters or others who happen to think that the USA isn't the best thing that happened in the history of this world. Your concerns for others doesn't make you a supporter of others. Rather, it shows that even in these stressful time you are still respectful of others... regardless of alignment ![]() Both great qualities to have and not to be ashamed of having ![]() ------------------ I'm the Wanderer without a clan... It's our fault. As to my thoughts on your "poor martyrs" statement, that is a real piece of work. In every post you make you say the same thing over and over and over, even when it's has nothing to do with the subject of the posting? It makes me wonder who you're trying to convince, everyone else or yourself? By the way, I don't think skywalker needs you to answer for him, whether he agrees with you or not. He's proven himself to be quite articulate in these forums and is quite capable of responding himself. Skywalker actually says different things on different subjects. Try it sometimes, it requires a little more thought, but makes for a better post. ------------------ ![]() "The Martyr" (excerpt) There is sobbing of the strong, And a pall upon the land; But the People in their weeping Bare the iron hand: Beware the People weeping When they bare the iron hand. --Herman Melville (written after the assasination of President Abraham Lincoln) [This message has been edited by Ronn_Bman (edited 10-20-2001).] [This message has been edited by Ronn_Bman (edited 10-20-2001).] |

This will undermine the point of the thread, but since you asked.
1) I have not seen the actual evidence linking him to the 9/11 attacks. I do know he has admitted to other terrorist acts. It makes no sense for him not to crow about it (9/11) if he did it. This does not mean I like the man or support him. For whatever reasons he does these hateful things, it is irrelevant. This is NOT the way civilized people cause change in this world. Therefore he is an unstable force (I will not use the word evil, it depends on who defines it and where you are in regards to this War) that must be stopped. So much for my sympathy. 2) Saying what is wrong with America has nothing to do with these terrorist acts. You do me a disservice when you say "If you speak out against America's policies you must be allied with our enemies!" Were the people who spoke out against slavery allied with some enemy of the USA? Were the people who rallied for a woman's right to vote an enemy of this country? Were those who spoke out against our role in the Vietnam War enemies of America? I have no overwhelming hate for this great nation, but I do have many issues with this administration. Many people feel we must follow and forget our differences for the greater good. That's fine for them, but not for me. I do support our brave men and women putting there lives on the line in Afghanistan. I support all the people who lost loved ones in the tragedy of the Twin Tower attack. I support all those who are terrorized in the Anthrax attacks. I support all the poor Afghans who have had to live and die under the horrible boot of oppression and now have to worry about a stray missile and become the victim of "collateral damage". We (the USA) are not perfect, we will not get closer to perfection without people disagreeing and questioning our faults. I have nothing more to say. I have never read anything (in those posts of yours that I have read) that gave me that impression, Skywalker. You have seemed to me to be able to see issues from both sides, which is commendable, imho.
