Talking about anthrax...........

On July 25th 2001 (not so very long ago) the US government rejected the protocol to strengthen the international biological weapons convention. (Countries working together on ways to make sure that all countries are not secretly developing weapons for germ warfare.)

The reason for the rejection of the protocol was to avoid pissing off American big business who make biological agents and technology that can be used or perverted to cause deliberate disease. The big pharmaceutical companies et al are not happy about the prospect of having their private facilities inspected to ensure they are adhering to imposed controls.

So, no, the US government is not interested in making the international biological weapons convention stronger, because it would piss off vested interests.

BUT, it doesn't want other countries to produce biological weapons to use against the US (of course!) Is this point of view not just a little inconsistent and illogical?.

Or could it be...... Aha. It's than unilateralist thing again. We want YOU to do such and such, but we're not going to join in, because it would be against our business interests to do so.

What price 'using every means at our disposal' to fight terrorism?

It means bombing the **** out of our ennemies thanks to our super-dooper technology. Big worlds but in fact, not much in term or actual action.

Oh for crying out loud, f*** the industries, world safety is FAR more important, if they don't want to be inspected then it's because they've got something to HIDE, and if they've got something that they wish to hide from government inspectors then they should be inspected.

Sorry Neb,
But we have this thing over here called the Constitution and it clearly says that Private indivduals and industies CAN NOT be inspected with out cause or warrents. That treaty or agreement would never be in effect on the US drug industies, because the Constitution also says that treaties or laws passed by the US govt. CAN NOT violate the Constitution if they do they are stuck down.
So sorry but that is the way it IS here.

Yet it's OK to submit Iraq to international agreements and treaties let alone sanctions that I'm sure their Constitution doesn't recongnize

Well, I do not wish to insult your country, but that is a DAMN STUPID RULE, random inspections are the only way to discover certain crimes, and if they do not wish to be inspected, I should say that THAT ALONE IS CAUSE FOR AN INSPECTION and when you have a cause a warrant should not be hard to come by, there you have it, cause and warrant.
