The early Thursday morning blasts shattered windows but did not cause significant damage or any injuries, the New York Police Department said.

The devices, which contained black gunpowder and a fuse, blew out a chunk of concrete in the flower box where they were planted outside the building.

The explosions occurred as voters in Britain were casting ballots in a general election in which Prime Minister Tony Blair is seeking a historic third term for his Labour Party. (Full story)

Yeah, not the smartest terrorists in the box. Presumably this was timed for the election but they did it too late so it didn't get into the morning papers. And the bombing of a consulate abroad is not likely to have the same impact that a bombing in Britain would do.

Pretty unlikely our elections would be influenced in the same way the Spanish ones were anyway, I would imagine we'd be more like America and get more interventionist.

But how can it be easier to bomb central New York than England?
