"For a guy who's been known derisively to the Bush crowd as the Breck girl," observes Shearer, vice presidential candidate John Edwards seems "way too interested in his hair." He tries to straighten it with his fingers. A makeup technician approaches with a comb, but the senator likes it just so and does the combing himself. He signals he's ready for hair spray by closing his eyes expectantly, like a child. Then Edwards and the technician straighten a little more with their fingers. Please don't tell me that thing in his hand is a compact. Oh, dear. It is.
you want THIS as Vice President?

I thought all multi-millionaires had this type of treatment. One would think to be a very succesful lawyer, (we all know his senate record) one would have to be prim.

And Cheney laughs like he's going to tie someone to the railroad tracks, according to Wanda Sykes.

How in the nine hells is that an issue?

It isn't, Illumina, but it IS kinda funny. There is no doubt that John Edwards is the first "pretty boy" candidate we've had for the White House in a loooooooong time, so the press is going to play up that angle.

One thing I will give Kerry is that he has a LOT of charisma. He actually reminds me a bit of Reagen in that respect - rather homely to look at, but very effective and charismatic is presenting his viewpoint. I only watched the 3rd Presidential Debate, but there is NO DOUBT that Kerry and Edwards both are much better public speakers than their counterparts. Then again, both are also accomplished trial lawyers, so that should come as no surprise.

I heard a brief snippet on the news the other night saying that the media was calling John Edwards "the next John F. Kennedy" (yeah, I know Kerry actually has the correct initials, but Edwards has the boyish good looks and charm that Kennedy was noted for). If Bush does win re-election, I think Edwards will have a lot of support as the Demo Candidate in 2008 (personally, I would liked to have seen Howard Dean get the nod this time instead of Kerry, but I can't deny Kerry's effectiveness against Bush). Of course, the Repubs will actually have to break tradition and choose a brand new candidate. Cause there is no way this side of Hades that Cheney could win. Even Nader could give HIM a run for his money.

Either way, more childish and inconsequential character assassination that makes about as much sense as attacking Kerry for being able to speak French fluently. I can appreciate it as a joke, but regarding your post history, I fear you're actually being more serious about this than you should be.

'Pretty boy' Edwards is just a bit vain, that's all. Alot of public persons are.

It's just a consequence of how image-based American politics are. Edwards is set up to be the young and dynamic counterweight to Kerry's more studious approach - allowing that to slip would have a big impact at the polls. I can't imagine Bush or any other public figure not getting the same treatment by their aides before they address the country.

Apparently, you've never seen actors getting ready to go in front of the camera. Everyone gets a once over by a makeup tech. before a televised event.

We the willful paying public lay down cold hard cash and EXPECT them to look good in their role.
Do we want our tax money going for a personlized 'make-up' trailer for the VP?
Akin to the media bliss when fmr pres clinton got that high dollar hair cut. Where does the line get drawn, and how it is proved between gov't funds and personal funds?
