Yet another slap in the face from Mr. Bush.

You may not like Mr Bush, but try reading your own article before critisizing him for something out of his hands.

The State Department curtly described the 20-by-10 centimetre item Mr. Chrétien gave as a "marble base with wooden pen rest," guessed it was worth $20, and quickly dispatched it to the archives. It never once graced Mr. Bush's desk in the Oval Office.

Some underling misjugded the value of the item. Then filed it away without a thought.

Though, it is interesting that one of your mayors out did your PM (in dollar value only - not artistic signifigance).

Find fault with the man for things he does. Don't go fishing for things to bitch about him.

Trivial. But it says alot about all our leaders if they can pass expensive gifts around to each other while poverty still exists in the world.

It's not about the dollar value, it's the craftmanship and materials that make it a choice piece, and quite honestly if I'm given a gift, I show some manners and look at it, irregardless of who gave it to me. I guess that's why I'm not the president.

Sorry Night Stalker. You are correct it was an underling! While the art piece by the mayor cost more, not as much thought went in to obtaining it. Such brass statues can be purchased at many art galleries throughout the city. I have actually thought about purchasing such a piece myself.

If an $800 pen set can be stated at $20 how do we know the accuratly the other items are worth. Maybe the bait is a rare breed of worms worth several $100. While gifts are nice I don't think thay should be mandatory, and it should be the thought that counts not the value.

The underling should not be in that position if he is simply not going to do any research. A simple phone call would give him the value.

*sigh* Yet again, Animal, point missed.

Look, the difference between individuals and BigImportantPeopleWithMoreImportantThingsToTakeCar eOf^TM is they have staff to handle mundane aspects of daily life. A member of his staff made a clerical error, nothing more. This is not an intentional insult to Canadians. The item will eventually go into his Library anyway.

Try reading the article again without the Bush Done Bad Again slant. No where does it say that Bush did anything bad or derogitory towards Chretein or Canada. As Chewie said, this is trivial. And making a huge issue out of it is just petty.
