Just did my system upgrade on tuesday.
went without any problems.

i upgraded from a amd kt133a SDRAM chipset with 256mb up to the
latest and greatest kt333 chipset and superfast PC3200 ram, and
512Mb of it.

superfast system now. running considerably overclocked at 1420Mhz
and 166fsb/166ram speeds.

still its suprising how much memory wizardry 8 consumes!
ive seen my mem usage peak at 350 to 400mb! no wonder i was having
trouble with just 256.

divx encoding is now alot more efficient too
am i a geek or what? hehe

Considerably overclocked at 1420? I'm assuming you must be running an old(?) T-bird. I've got mine up to ~1700 at 35C-40C. What temp is your cpu at? I'm only running the kt266a, so I'm a little jealous

hehe yeah.
its a 1+ year old Athlon tbird 1200C AXIA, and not one of the highly overclockable ones either.

at 1420 (8.5x166) it requires 1.94v.
i especially went for the epox 8k3a+ and the kt333 chipset as it offered the 1/5 divider, allowing me to run flawlessly at 166/166 fsb/ram for extra performance not obtainable with the usual asynchronous fsb/ram at 133/166.

the CPU at full load is sitting in the low 40's, dependent on room temp.
anothing good thing about the epox board is that it offers the rare opportunity to bump the core voltage ABOVE 1.85v. All the way up to 2.2V if necessary.

this means that i may be able to run my poor cpu at 1500Mhz(9x166),
but im estimating that this will require at least 2.05v. no something for summer!

damn stable board too.
so far ive had 1 crash, that was divx encoding but using an unoptimised system with the initial bios.
new bios has improved performance and stability. 4 hours of divx no trouble.

Cool. Running an ASUS board myself, never touched voltage and never a crash when o/clocked. I've been eyeing the new p4's with the quad pumped 133FSB, 533mhz. Yummy!

oh yeah
for overclocking they rock
get the 1.6A or 1.8A, the new 533fsb mobo's, some PC1066 ram when u can find it and just bump the bus speed from 100 to 133.
simple!

i must say bumping the bus speed on my epox was simple too.
but it helps to have an unlocked CPU

If your feeling really brave take an HB pencil and connect the L1 contacts on your CPU, just make sure you know what your doing. This'll unlock the multiplier on your cpu

Why don't you just rub it in some more! LOL AMD's great for letting stuff like that through, but they're starting to get wise now.

true... the xp's are much harder to unlock.
one of the many reasons why i didnt upgrade my CPU at the same time.

i wonder how far i can go with the voltage maxxed to 2.2v?

To the local computer shop to buy a new CPU! LOL! Haven't really played with my machine in a while. Nothing is really making it work as it is right now, although it would be intersting to see how fast you could get one of those bad boys going. AMD was always seconod rate for the longest time, but if you look at a lot of the old 386 and 486 chips, most where AMD. Are you noticing a big difference with the 333 over your 266. Not benchmarks mind you, but real world?
