I've been smoking for 2 years now. I know its a filthy habit, so thats why i want to quit. The problem is that i am too weak willed to give up on my own, and i'm only 16. So does anyone out there know the legal age for buying nicotine patches in the United Kingdom?
Any support is welcome and would be much appreciated. Feel free to email me if you have any tips to help me.
My email address is hayes@unemployed.co.uk.

I just quit 4 months ago. It's not easy, but it's doable. The best way to quit is to go to the doctor and get a prescription for Welbutrin or Zaiban. They are the same thing, but usually insurance covers Welbutrin. After a few weeks the cigarettes start to taste like crap. You can do it if you want to!

You can't buy nicotine patches at any age without a prescription from a doctor. Go to your GP for smoking cessation advice. Nicotine patches are free on the NHS but may not be clinically advisable.

Best of luck! Great that you realise what a filthy habit it is, and I hope you'll make it (am allergic to cigarette smoke myself, that's why I'm such a fanatic to people who smoke...sorry )

Smoking is one of the nastiest habit's in the world and those who do it are losers!

I wish I could quit

I started smoking, off and on, when I was 17, and it progressed to an everyday habit by the time I was 20. I'm 35 now and know every cigarette takes time off my life. They say the addiction to nicotine is harder to kick than heroin.

*smiles* You're right though, it does help to do something creative to take your mind off it.
I've been on a sugar-free diet for over a month now due to illness and I HATE it... I used to eat lots of candy so it's almost as bad as trying to quit smoking... however, it really helps if you just go and do stuff, whatever it is you like. BTW, chewing gum may help for a bit too...it does for me

Melusine: Chewing gum is a good idea...a lot better than chewing my fingers (i've ran out of finger nails). A sugar free diet? That sucks i don't think would be able to live without sugar. Oops i didnt mean to rub it in! I hope you get well soon .
Ronn: You deffiantly should try and quit it sucks to start with but i've been told to feel great afterwards. Good luck to you if you do decide to try and stop!
