Many times when I’m in a battle with my archer I want to use the called shot. I click on the special ability button and then the called shot icon. Then I have to click who I want to attack. But almost every time on the next hit by my archer nothing special happens with to his target. I then go back and click special ability and called shot still has the same number of called shots available. It’s like it didn’t take.
What am I doing wrong? |

This happened to me a few times before. What I think happens is the computer is slow on processing things, and so what it does when it gets to your ranger's turn to attack is that it accepts the last command given (in this case, to attack an individual). What I had to do was press the special icon, WAIT until the corresponding picture appears in your side-portrait, and THEN attack.

Yes - Called Shot is a passive power, as in it doesn't require a target. (Kai, Stun Palm, Offensive Spin, etc. are also passive powers) You just use the power as your action - clicking on an enemy will change your action to attacking the enemy instead of Called Shot. Once you use the power, then ALL arrows you shoot for a certain time (I think it's 10 seconds or so) will be called shot arrows. I could be wrong, and it's only the next arrow you shoot, but that's at least how to use CS.

from what i have experienced with my elven archer, they are basically the best good PCs you can make for the beginning, and on into the end. My 19 Dex, 18/27 Str elven archer had a lovely new-game Thac0 of 0. Base thaco 14, composite longbow, Longbow++++, elven bonus, and archer bonus added up to 75% of the kills in the party, and lots of dead goblins.
He's currently at -11 thaco at level 13, right in the middle of chp3. if this continues, he will simply be insane. With mazzy, valygar, jaheira, nalia, and jan, everyone has 17-19 dex. fun. most baddies are quite dead far before they reach me, provided i concentrate my fire on them. This has caused me to completely overhaul my former fighting and magic strategies. You should try an archer! It's great!
