I was curious what a Stalker/Mage would be like. Anyone ever try it or think it would work out? If not, is there anything else a Stalker would be good dualing to? Hell, who thinks Stalkers suck period?
![]() Anyway, just asking because I made a Neutral Evil Stalker and just thought of the idea. Also, somewhat related, if you cast Invis. on a thief, will his attack be a backstab, or does that only work with Hide In Shadows?

Well, im not too familiar with stalkers, but IMHO, anything dualed into a mage is bound to be decent, at the very least

I don't think that you can dual a Stalker to a Mage, but I could be wrong, I haven't tried it.
I am soloing with a Stalker right now and am enjoying it quite a bit. He's sort of like a Fighter/Thief as far as fighting ability goes, but with a few Druid and three mage spells thrown into the mix. His backstab only goes up to 4x (at lvl 17) or so I've heard. So his backstab's won't be as good as a Fighter/Thief, but his spells more that make up for it. I have my Stalker equiped with the Celestial Fury in his main hand, and the Belm (+1 extra attack/round) in the off hand. When I cast haste (one of his mage spells) I end up with 5 attacks per round. To answer you question about being invisible and backstabbing, yes it does work. I have the ring of air control equipped and I use it quite a bit because it cast's improved invisibility. So after I backstab a fighter I am still "Invisible enough" that mages can't target me with their spells. It usually gives me enough time to take out the fighters and then get to the mages before they start casting Hold, charm, etc. |

The Stalker is a Ranger kit, and Rangers can't Dual to anything except Cleric. IIRC, the max. Backstab modifier on a Stalker is x3, not x4....but I've never played one, so I can't be sure. Straight Ranger seems to be the best class anyway, unless you want an Archer.
(Someone really should make a Flail or Warhammer made of stone, that Beastmasters could use.)

you can't do it. the only dual-class possibilities the game allows must be multi-class possibilities. You CAN have a kit as your first class, but you cannot dual into a kit (kensai-->mage, not mage-->kensai). the biggest problem is that fighter-types that dual to something else lose their proficiencies that they had earned for usable weapons. For instance, a fighter with mace+++ dualed to a cleric would have no proficiencies in mace when dualed, so you would have to put a point into it. Then, when the fighter reactivates, they don't stack, meaning lost proficiencies (mace+++ instead of logical mace++++). I don't understand why simply deciding to change your lifestyle would make you forget everything you learned about weapons, but only for a couple of weeks. Stupid AD&D rules. (BG2:ToB does a good job of un-screwing multiclass chars, though, since normally-linearizing class experience requirements are changed to allow people to learn high level abilities.) A stalker-mage would be fun, but you can always do a good-aligned assassin-mage and respect nature a lot. (RP perspective)
