Logitech IR Optical Mouse

I'm getting one of these and just wonders whether it's any good. At £50 I expect it to be damn good! It's for my laptop which has a IR port.

I don't know how good it is, but IMHO there is nothing better than hooking up some kind of mouse to a laptop. I hate all the other options!

How do they work exactly Azurewolf?? Does it need a special mouse mat?

Instead of having a ball and rollers inside the mouse they have an infa red sensor so basically it negates problems of dirt and fluff etgc getting inside the mouse and blocking it up. The mouse movement is much more free. You dont need a special pad for them but i think hard plastic ones are the best from past experience.

But how do they distinguish movement?? ie how does it physically work? Sorry Being an engineer I HAVE TO KNOW!!!

I believe it kinda takes pictures of where it is and where it's been, which translates to the cursor on the screen. (Please correct me if I'm wrong!)

The infa-red sensor detects changes in the texture of the surface it's on. That's why it won't work on a glass or a mirror. I don't think it will work with a laptops infa-red port. You will have to hook a sensor up I think. I could be wrong on that though.

REALLY?? Dash! Thanks on the info as to how it works. I've seen it on laptops. What sensors do I need?
