I painted the dining room, cut limbs outta trees, took care of sick baby, and played on tToB for a couple of hours. There were no Fireworkd in Winston-Salem because of the Thunderstorm.

I still don't understand why 4th July is such a big deal. Nearly every nation/country in the world has been ruled by another at some point in history yet no-one else seems to make as much of a fuss as the Americans.

You have to undertstand the context in which liberty was achieved. We basically stood up to the most powerful nation in the world econmically and militarily and said "no." We had all the odds against us, and everyone full expected us to be stomped under the bootheel of Britain. Of course it's not as cut and dry a scenario as that, but that is essentially the yolk of the egg.
Initially, this was true. But we defied the naysayers and achieved independence. We may showboat it alot, but I think that stems more from national pride than anything else. |

An interesting statistic I heard on the radio today;
1 in 5 of young Americans don't know the country that they are celebrating from. Anyway, typically us Brits have to be different. We celebrate the fact that someone tried to blow up our parliment (Guy Fawkes night), and there will probably be a worship Tony Blair day soon. |
