If you like to steal things from merchants, but don't do it because your afraid of getting caught, heres a nice little spoiler to help you out. Get your thieves PICK POCKET ability to a somewhat high level, like a 100 or so. then go to a merchant from whom you can steal from. steal the item you want/need. if you get caught, hit the spacebar to pause the game (its good to pause before you steal, lessens the risk) and talk immedietly to the person from whom you stole. do this and the merchant won't go hostile.

Raistlin, I know you mean well (and I'm glad you put SPOILER in that title), but this little bug has been known since the first few weeks the game came out. It's been posted plenty of times, too. It's called the False Dialog option.

Personally, I don't use it. I figure the game already makes it so easy to accumulate gold and items (in fact, you're overflowing with 'em by mid-game--at least, in my experience), why should I try to employ a hole in the code that the developers couldn't fix in order to make things any easier? I don't even use the cheese tactic of consuming several potions of master thievery, then using my thief to steal things from the thieves guild, sell 'em back, steal 'em again, sell 'em back...gods, Bioware should have found a way to prevent anything so utterly unrealistic from happening. In any case, it's there, but I won't use it. There's no sense of accomplishment in playing a game only to cheat to get the goodies; and what else do we play games for?

I agree with you fable, and i didn't know its been posted many times(im new). i suppose i should have guessed, it isn't too hard to figure out.

By the way, i haven't used it either. you get plenty of money anyways, so why not just use it, i mean thats what its for, right.?

I never knew you could do that with merchants.

I knew some other talk bugs, but not with merchants. As for the cheat itself, I never steal, but if I would and failed i would just reload.

reloading takes time and stresses you out, Luvian. but thats ok 'cause stealing is wrong, and those who steal deserve that fate.

Great post Raistlin! Don't listen to fable, not everybody, including me, knew that. Just to add to another trick, well actually its probably not new to everyone else too.

I like to cast dire charm before pickpocketing or stealing. But you've got to do it fast beacause sometimes the spell wears off too quickly.

??? umm... reloading never stressed me out, I remember in BG1, sometimes I'd have to reload 50+ times to get the max hp upon lvl up. Also, I often went through the game too quickly, and with inadequte equipment and therefore many times I'd have to reload at a tough enemy

I'm sure what Raistlin meant about stressing you out is if your computer isn't fast enough to simply reload it like BG1 can reload. I remember BG1, you could just hit Quick Load and be back in like 5 seconds, just clearing memory, and loading the game. BG2 is bigger, with more variables, and it can take quite a while longer if your computer is a low-end nowadays.. like mine, for instance. I hate having to reload... it takes like 20-30 seconds a reload I'm almost sure... dang.

But you haven't been around here very long, and haven't used SEARCH (a function I strongly recommend) to look up all sorts of hints. Just do a search on "cheats" or "cheese," and you'll see an incredible wealth of material, if that's what you mean.

Again, I don't understand the desire to use cheats or cheese, though. What pleasure do you (or anybody else) get from playing gods in a game, rolling over challenges like they were rock candy? Where's the pleasure in it?
