Anyone? I'm not too particular whether it's rpg or strategy, just as long as it's sci-fi(ish). I've heard and seen some good things about VtM: Bloodlines, but that's more of my 'fallback', as it's not really sci-fi. I'm thinking of things with a galactic level of play if it's strategy. I suck at RTS and FPS stuff, so I'm looking more for a turn based system or something close to it. The last sci-fi game I've enjoyed was SMAC/X, and I've been out of the US for near on three years, so I'd like to get some good recommendations.
I've just placed an order in for my new laptop, and I'd like to have something to play for a week while I'm in the states. Get this: it's nearly the same cost to fly back to the states for Thanksgiving with my mom as it is to cover the fees associated with "importing" the laptop directly to China, so my wife told me to go home and make the most of the money. As long as an AMD Turion ML-44 can handle it, I should be good to go, since that's the performance bottleneck on the new machine.

I can't think of any off the top of my head.
Does star wars count as Sci-fi? Go for Knights of the Old Republic if you haven't. Other than that, nothing really comes to mind. Except Mass Effect... *drools* [ 11-08-2006, 09:34 PM: Message edited by: Kyrvias ] |

I'm not really into the whole Star Wars thing. I'd be burned as a heretic if one of my old college friends heard me say that, but you know, meh. I admit to being interested in Mass Effect, but I thought it was just an Xbox game? I have a 7 day window to do my shopping within the US, and anything not available for PC and on the shelf at wherever, it's not happening.

Go to google and enter "Bioshock". Its being made by the guys that did Thief 1 and 2, and Ultima Underworlds.. And System Shock 1.
This is gonna be game of the year (2007). As its coming out in Spring 2007. I know this game will rock. [ 11-14-2006, 11:52 PM: Message edited by: Ziroc ] |

Even if you aren't into the whole Star Wars thing... both of the KOTOR games are worth a look. They're set long before the Star Wars movies, and while they have a lot in common with the movies, there's a lot that's different (and in many ways better).

It's basically a universe all it's own, except for the Jedi.

Yeah, all I can think at the moment is Galactic Civilization 2.
Um... there was Anachronox that is a SF rpg. It was released in 2001, but if you haven't played it it might be worth a look, it's not like there are tons of SF games. I do recommend KOTOR, it's a great RPG and it has nothing at all to do with the movies. It happen hundread of years before them, all it actually has in common with Star Wars are Jedi and the name of some planets. Just think of the Jedi as some nifty mages. You can get X-com UFO defence on line for free, Or try Masters of Orion 1 or 2 or UFO aftershock I think is what it is called. All are turn based and very good games. X-Com Apocolyps was pretty good also. Alpha centuri if you can find it.
