I would only buy it if you are planning to play online (but you will need both expansions). It's certainly good enough for a single player game but only in multiplayer does it truly shine IMO.

Yeah, you get the Platinum edition for 50 or 60 dollors I think, and that includes both expansions. I'd even buy just to play the original campaign, and EfU, Zirocs online thing.

Yeah, EfU kicks serious ass. I wasted weeks in that at university. Ziroc really has created something special there.

Yes, Neverwinter Nights is a great game but as shamrock said, only really worth it if you intend to play online, or play any of the hundreds of mods available.

I'd just like to backup what everyone else said, it's a very good game online, but I wasn't really enamered with the single player campaigns (especially the original).
Definately worth getting simply for the online play though.

Though both NWN2 and plain old age are like to lessen the scope of the online community.
Nonetheless, I'm confident there'll be plenty of fun to be had for a few years more depending on what it is you want from the game. |

i've not played it online so i can't give an opinion there but i really enjoyed the single player - especially hordes of the underdark. wasn't too keen on the fact that you couldn't keep your henchman all the way through but on the whole it was good. need to free some hd space and reinstall it i think

Very subjective question obviously. For me, the single player campaign was a bitter disappointment compared to the consistent brilliance of the infinity engine games. Slightly clunky interface, overly combat heavy, limited party and strategic options due to the 'henchmen' concept, which was such a drop down from the roleplaying/interactive npc feast of the BG series.
It still had its enjoyable moments - I had alot of fun with the prologue/first chapter of Shadows of Unrentide which featured generally more roleplaying, more options and quests and not at a ridiculously high level. Playing all three single campaigns (NWN, SoU, HotU) is not as big an undertaking as it might sound - I did all three in less than a month with three different characters. Doing it this way makes more sense to me, rather than importing the same powergaming character each time, since the plots aren't terribly well connected. However, I've not tried it multiplayer to be honest - I know I'm probably missing out! But the more I visit Ironworks and see Zirocs Undermountain mod forum still going strong, I'm tempted to try it out! Thus in short: I'd give it a shot just to see what you think. The availablity of mods for the game is veritably huge. I even saw a remake of Ultima 4 a while back! (one of my all time faves)

I've never played the game online and I'd say yes it's worth getting... IF you get the expansions with it. The sp campaign that came with it pretty much stunk... both expansions were quite good... not BG2 good but good.
